4)  NOTES (with source citations as indicated in brackets):

William S. Tilden edited the book History of the Town of Medfield, Massachusetts, 1650-1886[1].  The family genealogy section of the book provides this summary for Samuel Smith:
"Samuel Smith inherited his father's house lot and buildings.  He married in 1669 Elizabeth Turner.  When the Indians made their attack upon the town, Elizabeth took her youngest child, then a year and a half, in her arms, and ran toward the fort.  When a little way from the house, the savages overtook her, and killed her by a blow on the head.  The child was thrown on the ground, stunned, and left for dead, but recovered consciousness, and, when found, had crept to the dead body of its mother.  One year from that day, Samuel married Sarah, widow of John Bowers, who had also been killed by the Indians.  He died in 1691, his widow in 1704."
Samuel Smith was born 13 October 1641 in Dedham, Massachusetts, the son of Henry and Elizabeth (Tailour) Smith[1,3-4].  The Dedham record says:
"Samual the son of Henry & Elizabeth Smithwas borne the 13 of the 8 mo [1641]"
The Henry Smith family moved from Dedham to Medfield in about 1652, and took a lot on South Street.

Samuel married, first, Elizabeth Turner, on 22 December 1669 in Medfield[6].  She was the daughter of John and Elizabeth (Marsh) Turner.   They had three children, all born in Medfield:

*  Elizabeth Smith (1670-1671)
*  Elizabeth Smith (1672-1704), married 1692 Eleazer Partridge (1665-1736)
*  Samuel Smith (1674-1742), married 1695 Elizabeth Adams (1672-1754).

After his first wife's death on 21 February 1676, Samuel Smith married, second, Sarah (Clark) Bowers, on 22 February 1677 in Medfield[7].  She was the daughter of Joseph and Alice (Fenn) Clark, and the widow of John Bowers (1646-1676), by whom she had had a son, John Bowers (1675-1729).  Samuel and Sarah had seven children, all born in Medfield:

*  Sarah Smith (1679-1769), married (1) 1701 Mathias Evans (1670-1725); (2) 1726 Henry Harding (1673-1764).
*  Henry Smith (1680-1743), married (1) 1703 Deborah Pratt (1684-1705); (2) 1708 Mary Adams (1681-1725); (3) 1730 Ruth Barber (1696-1761).
*  Daniel Smith (1682-1704).
*  Nathaniel Smith (1684-1762), married (1) 1705 Mary Clark (1687-1717); (2) 1717 Lydia Partridge (1687-1773).
*  Abigail Smith (1686-1726), married 1705 John Fisher (1677-1727).
*  Mary Smith (1688-1774), married (1) 1706 Henry Plimpton (1684-1731); (2) 1732 Jabez Pond (1677-1749); (3) 1750 Joseph Wight (1681-1756).
*  Prudence Smith (1691-1784), married (1) 1711 Joseph White (1683-1737); (2) 1739 Benoni Benson (1684-1761).

  Samuel Smith died on 25 October 1691 in Medfield, aged 50[5].  There is a Find A Grave memorial for him, but there is no gravestone photograph[2].

He did not have a probate record in Suffolk or Middlesex County, Massachusetts.
