Checking Out the MyHeritage Enhanced Photo Feature

Before I bought a self-focusing cell phone some time ago, I was pretty good at taking "fuzzy" photos which were often out of focus due to excessive motion when I snapped the photograph.  The MyHeritage Photo Enhancer helps bring images into better focus for some photos.  Here are my experiments from my 2013 SCGS Genealogy Jamboree photographs (for which I took very few "good" photographs):

1)  The Blogger lounge at the hotel, with Lisa, Elyse and Randy:

Enhancing this photo didn't improve the image very much.  It seems like the people are too far away.

2)  The Blogger lounge again, with Thomas, Cheryl, Gini, and her granddaughter:

Thomas's image is clearer, but the others are not much clearer.  Thomas is closer, Cheryl and Gini are further away.

3)  Elyse, Patricia and Randy:

This enhanced photo is much clearer, and the subjects are much closer to the camera.

It appears that this Photo Enhancer works really well for photos with lots of pixels in the faces, but not so well for photos with fewer pixels in the faces.  It's the faces we concentrate on and can tell when a photo is out-of-focus.

Disclosure: I receive a complimentary subscription to MyHeritage, and gave received other material consideration in past years. I uploaded my autosomal DNA raw data to their DNA product. This does not affect my objective analysis of MyHeritage products.

Hi Randy,

I'm not sure if you noticed it, but the Photo Enhancer's main benefit is in the standalone faces. After enhancing a photo, the faces that were auto-detected are listed beneath the photo and you can click each face in the "face row" to get a maximum enhancement for it. I believe you will see more noticeable results that way.
