Monday Genea-Pourri - Week Ending 15 June 2020

Here are the highlights of my family history and genealogy related activities over the past week:

1)  Moderated the Chula Vista Genealogical Society Research Group meeting on Wednesday, 10 June, via Zoom with 19 attendees.  I discussed the Family Tree Magazine 101 Best websites, MyHeritage free access to one or two collections each day, the SCGS Genealogy Jamboree 2021 will be cirtual, FamilySearch has indexed the New York land records, Joel Weintraub's 1950 Census location tool, the Fred Vaux study, my Sarah Giberson study, and the CVGS June Newsletter.  In the second hour, the attendees shared their genealogy studies, successes and challenges.

2)  Watched the San Diego Genealogical Society Program Meeting on Saturday, 13 June on a Zoom Webinar.  Gena Philibert-Ortega presented two talks about finding female ancestors.

3)  Participated in the Mini-Myrt Zoom meetings on Tuesday through Saturday.  Offered some commentary about my research and genealogical resources.

4)  Participated in today's Mondays With Myrt on Zoom Webinars.  We discussed John Boeren's Antecedentia blog, Greek research, Marian Wood's blog post, the Sanborn fire insurance maps, Rick Voight and Maureen Taylor Vivid-Pix and virtual reunions, the Lifelines blog post, Best of the Genea-Blogs, migration within Germany due to war, Backup services, and abstracts vs. transcripts.

5)  Watched the Family Tree Webinar "Using DNA to Answer Real Research Questions: Three Case Studies" by Gail Blankenau.

6)  Wrote and posted a biographical sketch of 7th great-grandfather #544 Samuel Smith (1641-1691) for my 52 Ancestors biographical sketch on Friday.

7)  Transcribed the 1720 Will of Joseph Grout (1649-1720) of Watertown, Mass. for Amanuensis Monday.

8)  Added Notes to 15 more AncestryDNA matches with cM values, relationships and known common ancestors.  Ancestry added 137 DNA Matches this week.  Reviewed new DNA matches on AncestryDNA, MyHeritageDNA, FamilyTreeDNA and 23andMe.

9) There were several sessions working in the RootsMagic software program to match with and update FamilySearch Family Tree profiles for Seaver families and my ancestral families, with occasional additions to the RootsMagic profiles. I have matched 36,061 of my RootsMagic persons with FamilySearch Family Tree profiles (up 128).

10)  Used Web Hints and Record Matches from Ancestry, MyHeritage, Findmypast and FamilySearch to add content and sources to my RootsMagic profiles.  I now have 57,836 persons in my RootsMagic file (up 87) , and 122,372 source citations (up 429).   I TreeShared with my Ancestry Member Tree two times this week updating 242 profiles, and I resolved 931 Ancestry Hints.  I've fallen behind on the Ancestry Record Hints with 131,391 to be resolved, but I work on them almost daily.

11)  Wrote 18 Genea-Musings blog posts last week, of which three were a press release.  The most popular post last week was Genealogy News Bytes - Tuesday, 9 June 2020 with over 335 views.

12)  We are still fine here at the Genea-cave, hunkered down and not going out much.  I went to the grocery store on Monday and Thursday and it wasn't too busy.  I pushed Linda in the wheelchair up and down the block five times. We watched the church choir and pastor's sermon on YouTube on Sunday.  Other than that, it was stay-at-home on the computer doing genealogy, eating and sleeping, plus reading ebooks on my laptop while watching TV.
