Seavers in the News -- Lucy Hannah (Smith) Seaver Dies in 1944 at Age 29 in Phoenix, Arizona

 It's time for another edition of "Seavers in the News" - a weekly feature from the historical newspapers about persons with the surname Seaver that are interesting, useful, mysterious, fun, macabre, or add information to my family tree database.

This week's entry is from the Arizona Republic [Phoenix, Ariz.] newspaper dated 4 January 1944:

The transcription of the article is:

"SEAVER, Lucy Hannah, wife of John A. Seaver, mother of Beatrice Rose and George A., sister of Vivia B. Bishop, Mearl J. Carlile, Pearl L. Rush, Hazel E. Luck, Ivia A. MacNeil, Goldie D. Kehr, Minnie Sampsell, Lt. Mary Ellen Smith, Everett F., Pvt. George Orval and Capt. Elmer O. Smith.  Services conducted by the Rev. C. B. Holland will be at 4 p.m. Thursday from the Memory Chapel of A.L. Moore and Sons.  Interment in Greenwood."

The source citation is:

"SEAVER, Lucy Hannah," Arizona Republic [Phoenix, Ariz.] newspaper, obituary, Tuesday, 4 January 1944, page 9, column 6, Lucy Hannah Seaver obituary;  Newspapers.com   (https://www.newspapers.com : accessed 12 November 2020).

This obituary provides a full married name, no age, no birth date, no death date, no death place, no cause of death, names of her spouse, children, siblings, and burial location.  Fortunately, it names her brothers, who have the last name of Smith.

Lucy Hannah Smith (1914-1944) was the daughter of George Emory and Ella Dora (Dimmick) Smith  of Boswell, Indiana.  She married John Alexander Seaver (1894-1974) as his first wife on 22 February 1936 in Maricopa County, Arizona.  They had two children:

*  Beatrice Rose Seaver (1939-2011), married (1) 1958 Robert Orr Dickinson (1932-2002) (2) Robert Vernon Griffith (1930-2004); (3) 1979 Donald Martin Elder (1937-2000); (4) Everett Raymond Stedman (1924-2013).

*  George A. Seaver (1943-????), married 1967 Norma Anne Jensen (1946-????).

I am not related to John Alexander Seaver or his children, since John's father was born in Canada and I have not determined his parents yet.

There are over 10,000 Seaver "stories" in my family tree - and this was one of them.   Life happens, accidentally and intentionally, and sometimes a person has a relatively short life and a full obituary with lots of sibling names.  I am glad that I can honor Lucy Hannah (Smith) Seaver today.

You never know when a descendant or relative will find this blog post and learn something about their ancestors or relatives, or will provide more information about them to me.
