Saturday Night Genealogy Fun - Are Your Top Autosomal DNA Matches in Your Tree?

  Calling all Genea-Musings Fans:

 It's Saturday Night again -

Time for some more Genealogy Fun!!

Here is your assignment, should you decide to accept it (you ARE reading this, so I assume that you really want to play along - cue the Mission Impossible music!):

1)  Have you done an autosomal DNA test?  If so, which testing company/ies?

2)  Of your Top 10 DNA matches on any site, how many are a known relative, and are they in your family tree?  No names...but give a known relationship if possible.

3)  Tell us about it in your own blog post, in a comment to this post, or in a Facebook Status post.
Please leave a link in a comment to this post.

Here's mine:

A)  On AncestryDNA, I have 36,503 matches.  My Top 10 matches are:

*  First cousin, father's side, 779 cM, in tree
*  First cousin 1x removed, father's side, 266 cM, in tree
*  Second cousin, father's side, 266 cM, in tree
*  First cousin 2x removed, father's side, 183 cM, in tree
*  First cousin 2x removed, father's side, 182 cM, in tree
*  Second cousin 1x removed, father's side, 175 cM, in tree
*  Second cousin 1x removed, father's side, 168 cM, in tree
*  First cousin 2x removed, father's side, 166 cM, in tree
*  Second cousin 1x removed, father's side, 130 cM, in tree
*  Second cousin 1x removed, father's side, 129 cM, in tree

The first match on my mother's side is the 19th on my list, a 3rd cousin.  This reflects my mother and both grandparents having no siblings, and my great-grandparents having few siblings.

B)  On 23andMe, I have 1,522 matches:

*  First cousin 2x removed, father's side, 2.33%, in tree
*  Second cousin 1x removed, mother's side, 1.62%, in tree
*  Unknown cousin, unknown side. 1.54%, not in tree - an adoptee
*  Third cousin, mother's side, 1.40%, in tree
*  Third cousin, father's side, 1.40%, in tree
*  Third cousin, mother's side, 1.24%, in tree
*  First cousin 3x removed, father's side, 1.22%, in tree
*  Unknown cousin, father's side, 1.22%, not in tree
*  Unknown cousin, unknown side, 1.16%, not in tree
*  Second cousin 1x removed, father's side, 1.04%, in tree

C)  On MyHeritageDNA, I have 9,602 matches:

*  First cousin 1x removed, father's side, 512 cM, in tree
*  First cousin 2x removed, father's side, 184 cM, in tree
*  Second cousin, 1x removed, father's side, 139 cM, in tree
*  Third cousin, mother's side, 76 cM, in tree
*  Unknown cousin, unknown side, 72 cM, not in tree
*  Third cousin 1x removed, father's side, 58 cM, in tree
*  Unknown cousin, unknown side, 55 cM, not in tree
*  Unknown cousin, unknown side, 55 cM, not in tree
*  Unknown cousin, unknown side, 49 cM, not in tree
*  Unknown cousin, unknown side, 48 cM, not in tree

D)  On FamilyTreeDNA, I have 4,038 matches:

*  Unknown cousin, probably father's side, 96 cM, not in tree
*  Unknown cousin, probably father's side, 87 cM, not in tree
*  Unknown cousin, unknown side, 83 cM, not in tree
*  Unknown cousin, unknown side, 83 cM, not in tree
*  Unknown cousin, unknown side, 82 cM, not in tree
*  Unknown cousin, probably father's side, 79 cM, not in tree
*  Unknown cousin, probably father's side, 75 cM, not in tree
*  Unknown cousin, unknown side, 72 cM, not in tree
*  Unknown cousin, unknown side, 72 cM, not in tree
*  Third cousin, father's side, 71 cM, in tree

The 1st, 2nd, 6th and 7th matches are all siblings with English ancestry and no trees.

E)  What does this indicate?

*  I haven't done enough work on my FamilyTreeDNA top matches.
*  I haven't done enough work on my MyHeritageDNA top matches either.
*  I have very few close matches (third cousin or closer) on my mother's side.
*  I have done a lot more tree work with AncestryDNA matches than the others because they have more users with trees.

Here's mine. I've tested at a lot of places, but not many close matches.

Here's mine. I have few close matches, but I know them all and they are in my tree. https://emptybranchesonthefamilytree.com/2021/05/saturday-night-genealogy-fun-140/

My first twenty or so matches on both ancestry and 23andme are the same. The top ten are four first cousins, two first cousins once removed, four second cousins. This does not surprise me since I have a very large family.

Hi Randy, I had some fun with this. See my response here: https://skcgs.groups.io/g/Society/message/1516

I may do a top 20 sometime and see if it keeps me moving ahead. I do have 149 DNA matches in my tree, but it's sorta sad to see how many of the top tens are not there!

I did mine and my parents. However I think I misstated some of the relationships inadvertently.
