Seavers in the News -- Roy A. Seaver Dies in 1952 in Oakland, California

It's time for another edition of "Seavers in the News" - a weekly feature from the historical newspapers about persons with the surname Seaver that are interesting, useful, mysterious, fun, macabre, or add information to my family tree database.

This week's entry is from the Oakland [Calif.] Tribune newspaper dated 12 October 1952:

The transcription of the article is:

"Roy A. Seaver
"MT. EDEN, Oct. 11 -- Funeral services for Roy A. Seaver, Mt. Eden rancher and former chairman of the Hayward High School District board of trustees, will be held at 2:30 p.m. Monday at the Pratt-Flierl Mortuary, 1044 C. Street, Hayward.

"Mr. Seaver, 51, died here yesterday.  A native of Kansas, he was a member of Alameda Lodge of elks, Sycamore Lodge of Odd Fellows, Hayward Rebekah Lodge and a charter member of the Hayward Kiwanis Club.

"Surviving are his widow, Alice; two sons, William and Robert Seaver; his mother, Mrs. Minnie Seaver; two sisters, Mrs. Lucille Dempsey and Mrs. Pauline Smith, and a granddaughter, Linda Ann Seaver."

This obituary provides a name, an age, a death date and place, the names of his wife, sons, sisters and granddaughter, plus a short description of his work history and associations.

Roy Arthur Seaver was born 21 August 1901 in Wichita, Kansas, the son of Charles Seward and Minnie E. (Campbell) Seaver.  He died 10 October 1952 in Mount Eden, California.  He married Alice Catherine Gading (1902-1979) on 14 October 1928 in Hayward, California.  They had two children:

*  William Roy Seaver (1930-2014), married 1952 Shirley Ann Lumbard (1913-2016).
*  Robert Arthur Seaver (1931-2007), married 1951 Doris Jean Trantham (1933-2008).

I am not related to Roy Arthur Seaver to my knowledge.  He is descended from Henry and Elizabeth (--?--) Seaver who married before 1770 in Virginia.

There are over 10,000 Seaver "stories" in my family tree - and this was one of them.   Life happens, accidentally and intentionally, and sometimes a person dies at a relatively young age while serving his community. I am glad that I can honor Roy Arthur Seaver today.

You never know when a descendant or relative will find this blog post and learn something about their ancestors or relatives, or will provide more information about them to me.

It seems that more men with the Seaver surname have immigrated to the United States then men with the Carringer surname. Nearly always, the Carringer obits that you blog about are for your relatives, but often the Seaver obituaries are not.
