Our Grandhound Walter -- Post 680 of (Not So) Wordless Wednesday

I can't help it, I can't do a wordless post! This is one of my favorite photographs:

This is Walter, one of my favorite animals in my life.  He is a basset hound that daughter Tami and her husband got in about 1998 early in their marriage.  This photo was taken in about December 2000, probably at their home in Long Beach.

Walter was so lovable, and so slobbery, and so great a dog.  He loved to eat, to go on walks, to sniff everything along the way, go to the dog park, and have his belly rubbed.  Everybody was his friend.  When they lived in Long Beach, they would go for walks every day on Second Avenue and Walter was a real chick magnet.  Every young lady wanted to pet him and he enjoyed every minute of it.

Tami joined the local Basset Hound Rescue and wrote a column called "Walter's Whimsies" for years in their newsletter that was hilarious and creative.  They even marched in a Rose Parade as I recall (hmmm, maybe it was a local parade?).

Unfortunately, Walter developed cancer later in life and was lost to the family.  He was our first grandhound, and our best grandhound.

Walter looks cute! No granddogs for us yet, but we have rescued Border Collie/Border Collie Crosses since 1988. This was our first dogless year, as Teddy suffered a stroke at the age of 15 last July 17th. There's nothing like a dog for loyalty, companionship and love.
