Here are the highlights of my family history and genealogy related activities over the past week.
1) Hosted the Chula Vista Genealogical Society General Meeting on Wednesday on Zoom with 55 in attendance. Sunny Jane Morton presented "U.S. Church Records: Why We Care Where Grandma Went to Church."
2) Attended the San Diego Genealogical Society DNA Interest Group meeting on Zoom. Kathy Fernandes presented "The Priest and the Choir Girl: Searching for Family in an Endogamous Population."
3) Participated in today's Mondays With Myrt Zoom webinar. We discussed HistoryPoints.org, QR codes in cemeteries, Ellen T-J's "The Genie Journal" book, the Jewish Sisters DNA story, the Wilmington NC Coup, Shelley's work at the University of Virginia, Elizabeth Shown Mills retirement, and Liv's "Potato Holidays" blog post.
4) Download and installed RootsMagic 8 on my desktop computer. The key I was given didn't work, so used Essentials until I received the unlock key on Sunday. Imported my RootsMagic 7 database and then tested it out over the weekend. Started using it on Sunday by adding events and sources from Ancestry Record Hints. I still don't have Ancestry or FamilySearch WebHints and cannot use Ancestry TreeShare in RootsMagic after many fruitless trials. RM7 TreeShare and WebHints stopped working last week, apparently because Ancestry changed the API. Wrote a summary blog post in Exploring RootsMagic 8 - #1 - the Main Pages.
5) Transcribed a deed record in Amanuensis Monday -- 1760 Deed of Norman Sever Buying Land in Shrewsbury, Massachusetts from Edward Raymond.
6) Published a genealogy biography of 7th great-grandfather #622 Joseph Morse (1667-1733) of Groton and Marlborough, Massachusetts.
7) AncestryDNA added 51 new DNA matches this past week, with one new ThruLines and MyHeritage added 16 new DNA matches. Reviewed the new DNA matches on AncestryDNA, MyHeritageDNA, FamilyTreeDNA and 23andMe. Added Notes to 1 more AncestryDNA match with cM values, relationships and known shared ancestors, and added one new ThruLines to RootsMagic.
8) There were several sessions working in the RootsMagic software program to match with and update FamilySearch Family Tree profiles for Seaver families and my ancestral families, with occasional additions to the RootsMagic profiles. I have matched 44,894 of my RootsMagic persons with FamilySearch Family Tree profiles (up 136).
9) Used Web Hints and Record Matches from Ancestry, MyHeritage, Findmypast and FamilySearch to add content and source citations to my RootsMagic profiles. I now have 66,118 persons in my RootsMagic file (up 130), and 142,706 source citations (up 223). I did not TreeShare with my Ancestry Member Tree, and I resolved 774 Ancestry Hints. I've fallen behind on the Ancestry Record Hints with 158,780 to be resolved, but I work on them almost daily.
10) Wrote 18 Genea-Musings blog posts the past week, of which two were a press release. The most viewed post the past week was Amanuensis Monday -- 1834 Deed of Aaron and Mercy Smith Gifting Land in Medfield, Massachusetts to Aaron Smith Jr. with over 435 views.
11) I am still fine here at the Genea-cave, hunkered down and not going out much after Week 80 of COVID-19 isolation. Linda is at a memory care and skilled nursing facility in Chula Vista 7 miles from home and I visit her for an hour every day. The physical therapists came twice last week and have her up and walking a bit with the walker. The Padres season ended, and the Padres finished 79-83 (1-5 the past week). I went to the grocery store on Monday and Friday. Other than that, it was stay-at-home on the computer doing (mainly) genealogy, plus eating, sleeping, laundry, cleaning, cooking, watching TV news and sports, reading books, napping, and a little yard work.
