Genealogy Pot-Pourri - Week Ending 20 December 2021

Here are the highlights of my family history and genealogy related activities over the past week.

1) Hosted the Chula Vista Genealogical Society General Meeting on Wednesday on Zoom.   The speaker was local executive Michael Brunker on "How a Simple DNA Kit Changed My Life."  After the talk, we installed the new CVGS officers.

2)  Worked on my DNA matches on AncestryDNA updating my spreadsheet.  I now have the top 90 matches on the sheet with lots of information.  Also looked at Linda's DNA matches on MyHeritage, and added several more lines to her family tree.  Lots of 4th and 5th cousin Norwegians - not a surprise!

3) Transcribed a deed record in  1742 Deed of Robert Sever of Framingham, Mass. Selling Land in Sudbury To Isaac Read for Amanuensis Monday.
5)  Worked in the Wiltshire probate records looking for Richman, Rich, Marshman, Angel and other surnames in the 1700-1870 time frame and found a few - see Rabbit Holes With Randy -- Wiltshire Probate Records.

6)  The RootsMagic TreeShare feature stopped working for me, so I disconnected it from the Ancestry tree.  Then used TreeShare to create a new Ancestry Member Tree and set out populating Record Hints in that tree.

7) AncestryDNA added 64 new DNA matches this past week, with two new ThruLines, and MyHeritage added 2 new DNA matches. Reviewed the new DNA matches on AncestryDNA, MyHeritageDNA, FamilyTreeDNA and 23andMe. Researched and added ancestral lines for three AncestryDNA matches to RootsMagic, and added Notes to 7 AncestryDNA matches.

8)  There were several sessions working in the RootsMagic software program to match with and update FamilySearch Family Tree profiles for Seaver families and my ancestral families, with occasional additions to the RootsMagic profiles. I have matched 46,242 of my RootsMagic persons with FamilySearch Family Tree profiles (up 70).

9) Used Web Hints and Record Matches from Ancestry, MyHeritage, Findmypast and FamilySearch to add content and source citations to my RootsMagic profiles. I now have 67,652 persons in my RootsMagic file (up 118 from last week), and 143,664 source citations (up 68). I TreeShared 156 new or modified profiles with my Ancestry Member Tree, and I resolved 977 Ancestry Hints. My newest Ancestry Member Tree has Ancestry Record Hints with 19,967 to be resolved, but I work on them almost daily.

10) Wrote 18 Genea-Musings blog posts the past week, of which three were a press release. The most viewed post the past week was
Rabbit Holes With Randy -- Wiltshire Probate Records with over 530 views.

11) I am still fine here at the Genea-Cave, hunkered down and not going out much after Week 92 of COVID-19 semi-isolation. Linda is at a memory care and skilled nursing facility in Chula Vista 7 miles from home and I visit her for an hour every day - we usually play Uno and she wins about half the time.  Had my vascular sonograms on my legs and aorta on Thursday - all seems OK.  The Chargers lost their game on Thursday.  Finished up the Christmas letter and mailing list, and mailed 40 cards/letters and emailed 100 letters to friends and family (if I missed you and you want one, please email me!).  Went to church on Sunday and enjoyed seeing friends and singing Christmas songs.  I went to the grocery store on Monday and Friday. Other than that, it was stay-at-home on the computer doing (mainly) genealogy, plus eating, sleeping, laundry, cleaning, cooking, watching TV news and sports, reading books, napping, and a little yard work.
