Carringers in the News -- Lyle Carringer and Emily Auble Wed in 1918 in San Diego

It's time for another edition of "Carringers in the News" - a weekly feature from the historical newspapers about persons with the surname Carringer (my mother's maiden surname) that are interesting, useful, mysterious, fun, macabre, or add information to my family tree database.

This week's entry is from the San Diego [Calif.] Union newspaper dated 23 June 1918:

The transcription of the article is:

"Miss Emily Auble Weds Lyle Carringer, U.S.M.C.
------------------
"Mrs. Georgia K. Auble has announced the marriage of her daughter, Emily Kemp Auble, to Lyle Carringer, who is stationed with the marines in Balboa Park.  The wedding took place last Wednesday afternoon at the parlors of the Central Christian church, only the immediate families of the two being present at the ceremony, performed by Rev. W. E. Crabtree.

"The young people are both residents of San Diego, and attended the local high school.  Mr. Carringer is the only son of Mr. and Mrs. H. A. Carringer, 2105 Thirtieth street, who are almost pioneers of this city.  He has been in the canteen at the Exposition camp for the past year, but is expecting to leave soon.

"The wedding was very quiet and came as a complete surprise to the many friends of the couple.  The bride wore a blue silk suit with a large white hat, and had no attendants.  Mr. and Mrs. Carringer will make their home at the Marine View apartments at First and Hawthorne streets."

Lyle Lawrence Carringer (1891-1976) was born 2 November 1891 in San Diego, California, to Henry Austin and Abbie Ardell "Della" (Smith) Carringer.  He died 5 November 1976 in San Diego.  Emily Kemp Auble was born 19 August 1899 in Chicago, Illinois, the daughter of Charles and Georgianna (Kemp) Auble.  She died 19 June 1977 in San Diego.  They had one daughter:

*  Betty Virginia Carringer (1919-2002), married Frederick Walton Seaver (1911-1983) in 1942.

Lyle L. and Emily (Auble) Carringer are my maternal grandparents.

There are hundreds of Carringer "stories" in my family tree - and this was one of them. Life happens, accidentally and intentionally, and sometimes a newspaper article provides more detail about a couple.  I am glad that I can honor my Carringer grandparents today.

You never know when a descendant or relative will find this blog post and learn something about their ancestors or relatives, or will provide more information about them to me.
