Brazilian Telenovela Star Thaís Pacholek Gets Real at RootsTech 2022

February 16, 2022, Sao Paolo, Brazil and Salt Lake City, Utah—Thaís Pacholek isn’t a real villain, but she does (occasionally) play one on TV. That’s to be expected from an actress who has become one of Brazil’s leading telenovela (soap opera) stars. But in real life, Thaís is a refreshingly down-to-earth mother and wife, who cherishes family, children, and a “cozy” home. Delighted at the chance to represent her native Brazil to a worldwide online audience, Thaís will share her story at RootsTech 2022 (March 3–5, 2022). Registration is free and open to anyone at RootsTech.org.

Thaís first took to the stage at age 9 in her native Curitiba, in the south of Brazil. At 18 she relocated to Brazil’s film capital of Rio de Janeiro. A graduate of theater arts and journalism, Thaís’s acting talent was widely recognized a few years later when she accepted her first of many telenovela roles at age 23. In a country generally recognized as the pioneer in the genre, breaking into Brazil’s telenovela scene was a rare accomplishment.

But Thaís isn’t a 1-dimensional talent. She was voted Miss Curitiba in 2005, and has starred in 15 live theater productions, 3 movies, and 5 television shows, in addition to the 8 telenovelas in which she has played a prominent role. She credits her family for her professional success.

THE ROLE OF FAMILY IN THAÍS PACHOLEK’S SUCCESS

“My family made me feel sure that this was the path I should follow,” she said. “Without them, I would not have had the confidence to venture out in Rio de Janeiro. My family, my foundation, was there for me, they guided me, emotionally, as they still do up to this day.”

In contrast to her acting roles, Thaís says her family is a “very real family” and that all of her relationships “have always been very real.” Though her family was anything but wealthy, she describes her childhood as a beautiful journey where the things they enjoyed most were the moments they had together. “Those are very good memories I carry in my heart, the struggle of a family to succeed in life, and never quit. And when the whole family is united, the result is always prosperity,” she said.

She found similar characteristics in her husband, country music star Bruno Belucci Pereira, who performs as half of a popular musical duo under the stage name Belutti. Together, Bruno and Thaís have a son, Luis Miguel, who Thaís describes as her “soulmate.” He is also the inspiration for her passion as an advocate for respectful childhood education. She said, “I think change in the world comes through children, because they are what all of us, adults, should be.”

Thaís also cherishes her family history saying, “I believe very much that we are what we are today because of all those stories that exist in this genealogical tree of ours, to which we all belong. So, I do believe that the strong woman I am, the positive woman I am, the optimistic woman I am, the hard-working woman I am—all this is due to all those [family] stories.”
