Genealogy Pot-Pourri - Week Ending 14 March 2022

Here are the highlights of my family history and genealogy related activities over the past week.

1)  Hosted and moderated the Chula Vista Genealogical Society Research Group Meeting on Wednesday on Zoom.  I reported on RootsTech Connect 2022 Conference, including availability of over 1,000 new presentations and the Relatives at RootsTech feature; the 1950 U.S. Census release on 1 April 2022, including the Enumeration District finding aids; Ancestry Stories and Photomyne photo enhancement features; and MyHeritage LiveStory feature.

2)  Attended the San Diego Genealogical Society Program Meeting meeting  on Saturday, where David Rencher presented "Come see what’s new at the Family History Library and FamilySearch" and "Out of the Ashes - Irish Genealogical Collections."

3)  Watched several more RootsTech classes.  Also watched the Mags Gaulden presentation on "Using WikiTree’s DNA Features in Your Family History Research" on Family Tree Webinars.

4)  Served as a panelist on today's Mondays With Myrt webinar, where we discussed witnesses and associates in genealogy software, brick wall definitions and analysis, and record availability in online and repository collections.

5) Published a genealogy biography of  #306 Joseph Grout (1683-1758) of Watertown and Westborough, Massachusetts for the 52 Ancestors series.

6) Transcribed a deed record in 1805 Probate Records of Peter Johonnot Seaver (1770-1805) in Suffolk County, Massachusetts for the Amanuensis Monday series.

7) AncestryDNA now has 39,529 DNA matches (up 65) this past week, with one new ThruLines. MyHeritageDNA now has 10,213 DNA matches (up 89), with no new Theories. Reviewed the new DNA matches on AncestryDNA, MyHeritageDNA, FamilyTreeDNA and 23andMe. Researched and added notes for 9 AncestryDNA matches and added one ThruLines to RootsMagic.

8)  There were several sessions working in the RootsMagic software program to match with and update FamilySearch Family Tree profiles for Seaver families and my ancestral families, with occasional additions to the RootsMagic profiles. I have matched 47,747 of my RootsMagic persons with FamilySearch Family Tree profiles (up 100).

9) Used Web Hints and Record Matches from Ancestry, MyHeritage, Findmypast and FamilySearch to add content and source citations to my RootsMagic profiles. I now have 69,269 persons in my RootsMagic file (up 119 from last week), and 144,397 source citations (up 40). I TreeShared 57 new or modified profiles with my Ancestry Member Tree, and I resolved 872 Ancestry Hints. My current Ancestry Member Tree has Ancestry Record Hints with 24,867 to be resolved, but I work on them almost daily.

10) Wrote 18 Genea-Musings blog posts last week (Sunday through Saturday), of which two were a press release. The most viewed post last week was
My MyHeritage 4-Generation Pedigree Chart Timeline with over 240 views.

11) I am still fine here at the Genea-Cave, hunkered down and not going out much after Week 104 of COVID-19 semi-isolation. Linda is at a memory care and skilled nursing facility in Chula Vista 7 miles from home and I visit her for an hour every day - we usually play Uno and she wins about half the time.  I had a doctor appointment on Monday, a dental hygienist appointment on Tuesday, and a financial advisor appointment on Thursday. I went to the grocery store on Monday and Friday. I watched the Ukraine news  occasionally.  Other than that, it was stay-at-home on the computer doing (mainly) genealogy, plus eating, sleeping, laundry, cleaning, cooking, watching TV news and sports, reading books, napping, and no yard work.  The hillside tree cleanup is still not finished.
