4)  NOTES (with source citations as indicated in brackets):

Mary Herrington was born 2 January 1692/3 in Watertown, Massachusetts Bay, the daughter of Edward and Mary (Ockington) Herrington[1-2].

She married, first, Daniel Rogers (1687-1711) in Watertown on 7 December 1710 at age 17[1,3].  Daniel died on 5 November 1711, without issue with Mary.

Mary Rogers married, second, Joseph Grout (1683-1758) in Watertown on 3 January 1716/7 at age 24[1,6].  He was the son of Joseph and Susannah (Hagar) Grout of Watertown.  They had seven children, all but the last born and recorded in Watertown town records.  The seventh child, Daniel, was recorded in Westborough.  The children were:

*  Mindwell Grout (1717-1741), married 1735 Silas Brigham (1710-1791).
*  Susannah Grout (1720-1816), married 1745 Levi Brigham (1716-1787).
*  Mehitable Grout (1725-1795), married 1749 Moses Brigham (1723-1769).
*  Joseph Grout (1727-1798), married 1755 Sarah Rice (1734-1808).
*  Jonathan Grout (1730-1801), married 1761 Hannah Merriam (1738-1811).
*  Sarah Grout (1732-????), married 1754 Jason Parmenter (1726-????).
*  Daniel Grout (1736-1809), married 1762 Elizabwth Adams (1743-1822).

Mary's father, Edward Herrington wrote his will on 3 March 1735, and it was proved in Middlesex County Probate Court on 7 March 1736[14].  In his will he bequeathed to his daughter Mary Grout:
"(7)  Item I Give and bequeath unto my daughter Mary Grout the Sum of forty pounds ^in Houshold Stuff and such stock or to her Heirs^ in good Bills of Creddit on the Massachusets Province ^ to be paid^ with'in one yeare next after my decease and my Wife's Decease ^or Marriage^ (which Soever first comes to pass) by my Executor hereafternamed, Or in good Bills of Creddit if said other Estate falls Short which Sum together with what she had at Marriage is her Portion."
Mary's husband, Joseph Grout, died intestate on 13 October 1758 in Westborough, Massachusetts.  His widow, Mary Grout, wrote a letter to the Judge of Probate for Worcester County dated 11 January 1759 and declined appointment as administratrix to her husband's intestate estate, and suggested their son, Jonathan Grout.  Jonathan Grout posted a 200 pounds bond with Joseph and Daniel Grout (brothers or uncles) on 12 January 1759 and was appointed administrator on that date.  A committee was appointed to take an inventory of the estate on 5 February 1759.  The inventory was taken on 7 April 1759 by Simon Tainter, Samuel Harrington and Nathaniel Whitney.  It had no real estate, and the personal estate totaled £49 18s 5p.  The inventory was taken on 7 April 1759 and was presented to the Court on 9 April 1759[5].

Mary (Herrington) (Rogers) Grout died on 18 January 1774 in Westborough at age 82, and is buried in Memorial Cemetery in Westborough[2].  Her gravestone inscription says:

"Mrs.
Mary
wife of
Mr. Joseph Grout
died Aug. 18 1774"

NOTE:  This genealogical sketch is out of Ahnentafel order because I found new information linking Sophia Newton to her birth father, Lambert Brigham.

NOTE: In 2014, Amy Johnson Crow suggested a weekly blog theme of "52 Ancestors" in her blog post 52 Ancestors in 52 Weeks on the No Story Too Small blog. I have extended this theme in 2022 for a ninth year to 468 Ancestors in 468 Weeks. The (incomplete) list of 52 Ancestors biographies from my great-grandparents to the 7th great-grandparents (in work) is in https://www.geneamusings.com/p/ancestor-biographies.html.
