Here are the highlights of my family history and genealogy related activities over the past week.
1) Hosted and moderated the Chula Vista Genealogical Society monthly Research Group meeting on Wednesday with 34 in attendance. We discussed the 1950 U.S. Census, including the status of the images and the indexes on all four websites (NARA, Ancestry, MyHeritage and FamilySearch). Demonstrated the search process on all four sites. Several attendees also discussed their efforts to find family in the 1950 census.
2) Served as a panelist on today's Mondays With Myrt webinar. We discussed Genea-Musings 16th anniversary and blogging, Liv and Margaret's new book on Norwegian genealogy, Daniel on Irish records and surname maps, the book Albion's Seed, Frank's Chinese-German find, and Hilary's unknown sibling of an ancestor.
3) Published a genealogy biography of #311 Mary (Morse) Maynard (1697-????) of Marlborough and Westborough, Massachusetts for the 52 Ancestors series.
4) Transcribed a probate record - Guardianship of the Children of John F. and Adaline E. Seaver of Woburn, Massachusetts - for the Amanuensis Monday series.
5) Received my updated AncestryDNA ethnicity estimate, and wrote Will the AncestryDNA Ethnicity Estimate Ever Settle Down?
6) AncestryDNA now has 39,824 DNA matches (up 41) for me this past week, with no new ThruLines. MyHeritageDNA now has 10,319 DNA matches (up 12) for me, with no new Theories. Reviewed the new DNA matches on AncestryDNA, MyHeritageDNA, FamilyTreeDNA and 23andMe. Researched and added notes for 1 AncestryDNA matches and added one ThruLines to RootsMagic.
7) There was one session working in the RootsMagic software program to match with and update FamilySearch Family Tree profiles for Seaver families and my ancestral families, with occasional additions to the RootsMagic profiles. I have matched 47,978 of my RootsMagic persons with FamilySearch Family Tree profiles (up 17).
8) Used Web Hints and Record Matches from Ancestry, MyHeritage, Findmypast and FamilySearch to add content and source citations to my RootsMagic profiles. I now have 69,536 persons in my RootsMagic file (up 17 from last week), and 144,665 source citations (up 59). I TreeShared 50 new or modified profiles with my Ancestry Member Tree, and I resolved 498 Ancestry Hints. My current Ancestry Member Tree has Ancestry Record Hints with 24,565 to be resolved, but I work on them almost daily. Resolved 20 MyHeritage record matches, adding information to RootsMagic profiles.
9) Wrote 19 Genea-Musings blog posts last week (Sunday through Saturday), of which four were a press release. The most viewed post last week was Ancestry® Introduces SideViewTM, a First-Of-Its-Kind Technology That Gives Individuals Greater DNA Insights with over 262 views.
10) I am still fine here at the Genea-Cave, hunkered down and not going out much after Week 109 of COVID-19 semi-isolation. Linda is at a memory care and skilled nursing facility in Chula Vista 7 miles from home and I visit her for an hour every day - we usually play Uno and she wins about half the time. I went to the grocery store on Monday and Friday. I watched the Padres games and we are now 6-5 on the season (3-4 the last week). Other than that, it was stay-at-home on the computer doing (mainly) genealogy, plus eating, sleeping, laundry, cleaning, cooking, watching TV news and sports, reading books, napping, and a little yard work.
