Genealogy Pot-Pourri - Week Ending 9 January 2023

Here are the highlights of my family history and genealogy related activities over the past week.

1)  Attended the Chula Vista Genealogical Society (CVGS) Board meeting on Wednesday on Zoom.  We discussed the upcoming programs, dues structure, newsletter content, speaker handouts and recordings, adding more in-person events, and much more.

2)  Attended the San Diego Genealogical Society (SDGS) DNA Interest Group meeting on Zoom, hosted by Colin Whitney.  He presented "Grouping and Filtering your DNA Matches."

3)  Wrote a genealogical sketch for #733 7th great-grandmother Sarah (Brown) Pray (1662-after 1734) of Providence, Rhode Island for the 52 Ancestors series.

4)  Transcribed a probate record for the Amanuensis Monday series -- 1851 Will of Daniel Seaver (1767-1851) of Maryland, New York.  Used this to help a correspondent sort out a DAR line.

5)  Added four more family stories in StoryWorth, which I received for Christmas from my daughter.  I have written ten stories so far, including biographies of my mother and father.

6)  Posted another six generations descendants report for John Marshman (1747-????) and Anne Angel (1749-1795) of Wiltshire, England.  Improved the formatting to include birth, marriage and death events and locations for persons.

7) AncestryDNA now has 41,642 DNA matches (up 43 from 2 January) for me today, with one new ThruLines.   I added 4 Notes to my matches.  MyHeritageDNA now has 10,958 DNA matches (up 17 from 2 January) for me, with no new Theories.  Reviewed the new DNA matches on AncestryDNA, MyHeritageDNA, FamilyTreeDNA and 23andMe.

8)  Occasionally matched RootsMagic 8 profiles to FamilySearch Family Tree.  I have matched 48,792 of my RootsMagic persons with FamilySearch Family Tree profiles (up 26).

9) Used Web Hints and Record Matches from Ancestry, MyHeritage, Findmypast and FamilySearch to add content and source citations to my RootsMagic profiles. I now have 70,264 persons in my RootsMagic file (up 30 since 2 January), and 145,510  source citations (up 3). I TreeShared 55 new or modified profiles with my Ancestry Member Tree, and I resolved 109  Ancestry Hints. My Ancestry Member Tree has Ancestry Record Hints with 173,107 to be resolved, but I work on them several times a week.  I resolved no MyHeritage Record Matches, leaving 162,438 Record Matches in 285 sources and I work on them occasionally.

10) Wrote 17 Genea-Musings blog posts last week (Sunday through Saturday), of which three were a press release. The most viewed post last week was
FamilySearch: What to Expect in 2023 with over  162 views.  Genea-Musings had about 9,400 views last week.

11)  Real life:  This is week 148 since COVID restrictions started.   I stayed home except for visiting Linda almost every day.  Linda is at a memory care and skilled nursing facility in Chula Vista 7 miles from home. Received the Jitterbug phone for Linda, and learned how to use it, but had to order a screen protector and a casing.  Went grocery shopping on Monday and Friday.  Watched a lot of football, and did not do much genealogy work all week, except for blog posts.  My Aztecs won their basketball game against Wyoming. My Chargers lost to Denver 31-28, so they are now 10-7 and going to the playoffs.
