Saturday Night Genealogy Fun -- What Are Your 2023 Genealogy Goals

 Calling all Genea-Musings Fans:

 It's Saturday Night again -

Time for some more Genealogy Fun!!

Come on, everybody, join in and accept the mission and execute it with precision.

1)  Have you made genealogy goals for 2023?  What are they?  Which one would you be most excited to see accomplished?

2) Tell us about them in your own blog post, in a comment on this post, or in a Facebook post.  Please leave a link on this post if you write your own blog post.

3)  Is this fun?  Hey, we all need challenges!

Here's mine:

I have avoided making any goals because of my dismal efforts to meet them over the past few years.

However, in the spirit of a new year, here are my genealogy "goals" for the next year (assuming my health situation does not impact my work):

*  Keep writing the "52 Ancestors" genealogical sketches.  I will need to decide later in the year if I want to continue this into the 8th great-grandparent ancestors (there are over 400 known ancestors in this generation, so it may take 8 years to complete this generation, and I'm unsure if I'll live that long).  Then add the sketches to FamilySearch Family Tree profiles.

*  Keep writing the "Amanuensis Monday" posts transcriptions, mainly of probate records.  I've done probate records of many of my ancestors, and this year have branched out to non-ancestor Seaver persons in Massachusetts.  I may go for other New England states, or New York, next, based on FamilySearch or Ancestry images.  Then, add the transcriptions to the profiles in my RootsMagic database.

*  Continue to "collect" records for descendants of my 4th great-grandparents.  This is mainly for DNA match purposes.  Also, continue to create 6 generation descendants report using RootsMagic and post them on Genea-Musings.

*  Continue to use Ancestry Record Hints, MyHeritage Record Matches, FamilySearch Research Hints, to find records for profiles in my RootsMagic database, especially for newly added persons.

*  Gather family photos into one file folder and standardize photo captions with name, date, place, event information.

*  Complete one year's worth of family stories using StoryWorth and publish a book with them for my children and grandchildren.

*  Continue chasing DNA matches, especially on Ancestry and MyHeritage, to find the common ancestors for me and each match.  I need to do more "skeleton" trees to solve relationships with more matches without a ThruLine or a Theory of Family Relativity.

Which one would I like to see accomplished?  They are all important to what I'm doing - documenting my own, my wife's, and my grandchildren's family trees, images and stories, and adding them to online family trees.  The StoryWorth compilation is what my daughters are most interested in.

The above list is essentially what I've been doing over the past five years.  Posting them as a "first draft" on Genea-Musings helps feed the RootsMagic family tree, the Ancestry family tree, the MyHeritage family tree, and the FamilySearch Family Tree.  However, if a brick wall breakthrough, occurs I will pursue it.  Same with interesting genealogy challenges from queries or comments of colleagues.

Life is short - do genealogy first!!!

I have two goals. 1) to finish and publish a 2 volume book on my mother's ancestors. I'm pretty far along, but I have to get to the finish line. 2)I'm also hoping to publish an article in a genealogical magazine. I've gotten a tentative okay from the editor to proceed with my idea. Fingers crossed!
