Here are the highlights of my family history and genealogy related activities over the past week.
1) Hosted and moderated the Chula Vista Genealogical Society (CVGS) Research Group Meeting on Wednesday in a Zoom meeting. I reported on the RootsMagic 9, Ancestry's new features, MyHeritage's new features, RootsTech 2023, Drew Smith's new book, RootsWeb, and more.
2) Attended the San Diego Genealogical Society Program Meeting on Saturday in a Zoom meeting. Elissa Scalise Powell was the speaker on " Rubik’s Cube Genealogy: A New Twist on Your Old Data" and "Patriot or Not?: Using the GPS on a Closed DAR Line."
3) Wrote a genealogical sketch for #748 Solomon Carpenter (1677-1750) of Rehoboth, Massachusetts and South Kingstown, Rhode Island for the 52 Ancestors series. This is my 470th ancestor sketch.
4) Transcribed the 1878 Application for Widow's Claim and Widow's Brief of Rosannah Lanfear of Lorraine, New York for Bounty Land in the War of 1812 Pension and Bounty Land Warrant Files for the Amanuensis Monday series.
5) Watched more RootsTech 2023 videos and saved more syllabus articles.
6) AncestryDNA now has 42,573 DNA matches (up 83 from 5 March) for me today, with one new ThruLines. I added one Note to my new matches. MyHeritageDNA now has 11,178 DNA matches (up 14 from 5 March) for me, with no new Theories. Reviewed the new DNA matches on AncestryDNA, MyHeritageDNA, FamilyTreeDNA and 23andMe.
8) Used Web Hints and Record Matches from Ancestry, MyHeritage, Findmypast and FamilySearch to add content and source citations to my RootsMagic profiles. I now have 70,818 persons in my RootsMagic file (up 45), and 145,833 source citations (up 46). I TreeShared 90 new or modified profiles with my Ancestry Member Tree, and I resolved 734 Ancestry Hints. My Ancestry Member Tree has Ancestry Record Hints with 176,692 to be resolved, but I work on them several times a week. I resolved no MyHeritage Record Matches but I work on them occasionally.
9) Wrote 14 Genea-Musings blog posts last week (Monday through Sunday), of which two were a press release. The most viewed post last week was Best of the Genea-Blogs - Week of 26 February to 4 March 2023 with over 174 views. Genea-Musings had about 14,700 views last week.
