Genealogy Pot-Pourri - Week Ending 20 August 2023

Here are the highlights of my family history and genealogy related activities over the past week.

1)  Hosted and moderated the Chula Vista Genealogical Society DNA Interest Group Meeting on Wednesday on Zoom.  We discussed the Leah Larkin affidavit in the Kohberger case, updated Ancestry SideView, Ancestry ethnicity painter, and working to resolve DNA matches.

2)  Attended the San Diego Genealogical Society British Isles SIG  Meeting with Evva Housley on Saturday on Zoom.  She talked about "Ireland Registry of Deeds and Collections."

3)  Wrote a genealogical sketch for  7th great-grandfather #888 Michael Metcalf (1680-1761) of Medfield and Medway, Massachusetts and Keene, New Hampshire for the 52 Ancestors series on Friday.  I've written 493 of these sketches for my ancestors.

4)  Transcribed the one page 1847 Will of Josiah W. Seaver (1777-1847) of Rochester, New York for the Amanuensis Monday series.  I've transcribed about 690 records in this series.

5)  AncestryDNA now has 43,878 DNA matches (up 58 from 13 August) for me today, with no new ThruLines.   I added no Notes to new matches.  MyHeritageDNA now has 11,636 DNA matches (up 40 from 13 August) for me, with no new Theories.  Reviewed the new DNA matches on AncestryDNA, MyHeritageDNA, FamilyTreeDNA and 23andMe.

6)  Occasionally matched RootsMagic 9 profiles to FamilySearch Family Tree.  I have matched 49,786 of my RootsMagic persons with FamilySearch Family Tree profiles (up 49).

7) Used Web Hints and Record Matches from Ancestry, MyHeritage, Findmypast and FamilySearch to add content and source citations to my RootsMagic profiles. I now have 71,355 persons in my RootsMagic family tree (up 51), and 146,169  source citations (up 3).  I resolved 167 Ancestry Hints. TreeShared no new and updated profiles with Ancestry.  My Ancestry Member Tree has Ancestry Record Hints with 177,892 to be resolved, but I work on them several times a week.

8) Wrote 14 Genea-Musings blog posts last week (Sunday through Saturday), of which two were a press release. The most viewed post last week was
Added and Updated Ancestry.com Record Collections - Week of 12 to 18 August 2023 with over 108 views.  Genea-Musings had about 11,800 page views last week.

9)  Real life:  This is week 180 since COVID restrictions started.   I stayed home except for visiting Linda every day at the skilled nursing/memory care facility. Walked every day but Sunday on the block and talked to several neighbors.  Attended the Rohr engineers lunch on Thursday.  Hunkered down on Sunday when Hurricane Hilary came through; no damage here but plenty of water and wind damage in southern California.  Finished reading John Grisham's book Camino Winds and am reading James Patterson's The House of Wolves. The Padres season continued, and I watched all of the games this past week.  They are 59-66 so far (3-4 this past week) and still in fourth place in the NL West division.
