 Here is this week's edition of "Seavers in the News" - a weekly feature from the historical newspapers about persons with the surname Seaver that are interesting, useful, mysterious, fun, macabre, or add information to my family tree database.

This week's entry is from the Poughkeepsie [N.Y.] Journal  newspaper dated 15 July 1976, page 33:

The transcription of the article is:

This obituary provides the name, age, birth date and place, parents names, death date and place, spouse's name, children's names, social associations, burial information, and church association.  It does not provide marriage date and place, or cause of death.

Bertha Ray Thackeray (1887-1976) was born 10 October 1887 in Stamford, Connecticut, the daughter of George and Mrs. Thackeray. She died 14 July 1976 in Poughkeepsie.  She married Henry Blanchard Seaver (1888-1974) on 24 October 1911 in New York City.  They had three children:

*  Marjorie Ray Seaver (1912-1971) married 1941 Horace M. Straup (1910-1960).
*  Robert Devereaux Seaver (1914-1965), married 1940 Mary Emily Voigt (1917-????).
*  Barbara Latta Seaver (1923-2010).

I am an 8th cousin two times removed to Henry Blanchard Seaver (1888-1974).  Our common Seaver ancestor is my 9th great-grandfather Robert Seaver (1608-1683).

There are over 10,000 Seaver "stories" in my family tree - and this is one of them.   Life happens, accidentally and intentionally, and sometimes a person has an obituary that is fairly complete and informative.    I am glad that I can honor Bertha Ray (Thackeray) Seaver today.

You never know when a descendant or relative will find this blog post and learn something about their ancestors or relatives, or will provide more information about them to me.
