Genealogy Pot-Pourri - Week Ending 17 December 2023

Here are the highlights of my family history and genealogy related activities over the past week.

1)  Attended the in-person Chula Vista Genealogical Society (CVGS) Education Meeting on Tuesday, and helped a guest/potential member with his Jewish and American research problem.  We found information on his grandparents and great-grandparents in vital records, immigration and naturalization, and census records.

2)  Attended the in-person CVGS Holiday Celebration at the Bonita Museum on Wednesday with 13 in attendance.  We had finger foods and desserts, and had a fun time sharing a gift exchange.  I initially got a beginners genealogy book which was initially stolen and ended up with a useless doodad (I have no clue what it is!) which I will regift next year if I still have it.

3)  Wrote a genealogical sketch for my great-granduncle  Benjamin Seaver (1854-1894) of Medfield and Worcester, Massachusetts and Orlando, Florida for my new 52 Relatives theme series.

4)  Transcribed the 1868 will and 1870/1871 codicils of Sarah C. Seaver of Chester County, Pennsylvania for the Amanuensis Monday theme.

5)  Added another 10 of my 52 Ancestors posts (just Notes and Sources) to FamilySearch Family Tree "Life Story" profiles for my mother's ancestors back to my 5th great-grandparents.  Updated several of the existing profiles.  There are more to do to get them all into the FSFT.

6)  AncestryDNA now has 44,515 DNA matches (up 40 from 10 December) for me today, with no new ThruLines.  I added Notes to 5 matches.  MyHeritageDNA now has 11,988 DNA matches (up 18 from 10 December) for me, with no new Theories.  Reviewed the new DNA matches on AncestryDNA, MyHeritageDNA, FamilyTreeDNA and 23andMe.

7)  Occasionally matched RootsMagic 9 profiles to FamilySearch Family Tree.  I have matched 50,167 of my RootsMagic persons with FamilySearch Family Tree profiles (up 73).

8) Used Web Hints and Record Matches from Ancestry, MyHeritage, Findmypast and FamilySearch to add content and source citations to my RootsMagic profiles. I now have 71,771 persons in my RootsMagic family tree (up 68), and 146,394 source citations (up 5).  Resolved 365 Ancestry Hints. TreeShared no new and updated profiles with my Ancestry tree.  My Ancestry Member Tree has Ancestry Record Hints with 14,161 to be resolved, but I work on them several times a week.

9) Wrote 16 Genea-Musings blog posts last week (Sunday through Saturday), of which two were a press release. The most viewed post last week was
Ancestry.com Introduces ProTools for an Additional Fee with over 544 views.  Genea-Musings had about 34,700 page views last week.

10)  Real life:  This is week 197 since COVID restrictions started.   I visited Linda almost every day at the skilled nursing/memory care facility. Linda's brother and sister-in-law visited from the Bay area on Friday to Sunday.  We went out to dinner twice, and went to the Hotel del Coronado on Saturday evening to view the lights.  Daughter Tami visited on Saturday also.  Went shopping on Monday and Friday.  Took the car for service on Thursday.  Finished my Christmas shopping - than you, Amazon! Walked almost every day on the block and talked to several neighbors.  I finished reading the James Patterson book The Shadow and started John Sandford's book Ocean Prey.   Listened on the radio as my Chargers lost badly on Thursday to the Raiders 63-21 (so now 5-9).  Watched some NFL football on Sunday.
