Genealogy Pot-Pourri - Week Ending 15 September 2024

Here are the highlights of my family history and genealogy related activities over the past week.

1)  Hosted and moderated the Chula Vista Genealogical Society (CVGS) Research Group Meeting on Wednesday with 20 attendees.  I reported on the Full-Text Search expansion to Canada and UK/Ireland, RootsTech 2025 registration, MyHeritage acquisition of MesAieux, free Webtember videos, my Ask AI work and poems/songs,

2)  Attended most of the San Diego Genealogical Society Fall Seminar with Judy G. Russell as the speaker on Runaway Black Laws, Prohibition Records, Inventing America, and Prison Records.

3)  Watched several webinars on Family Tree Webinars, including Andrew Redfern's Family History and AI talk, Roberta Estes's 6 Ways to Figure How We're Related, Lisa Lisson's Bridging Generations, and two recent Elizabeth Shown Mills presentations.

4)  Participated in Mondays With Myrt last Monday (9 September), and we discussed Yvette's Transkribus project, archiving documents, calendar differences, FamilySearch collections, and more.

5)  Presented "Randy's Top Ten Genealogy Search Tips" to the Temecula Valley Genealogical Society on Tuesday in a hybrid Zoom meeting.

6)  Transcribed the 1877 Mortgage Discharge of D. Delos Carder to James A. Kemp for Land in Norfolk County, Ontario for the Amanuensis Monday theme.

7)  Wrote a genealogical sketch for my Great-Granduncle Seymour Kemp (1864-1877) of Ontario  for the 52 Relatives theme.

8)  Requested Claude AI to create a poem about my grandmother, Emily Kemp (Auble) Carringer (1899-1977),  and had Suno.com create a song.  I posted them in "Emily's Lovess" - A Genealogy Poem and Song Created by Artificial Intelligence.

11)  Created more short narrative reports in RootsMagic 10 for more ancestors in New England and New Jersey and added the reports to their Person Notes.  The reports include the info about each person, their spouse, their children, research notes, and sources.

12)  AncestryDNA now has 46,910 DNA matches (up 61 from 9 September) with 1986 "close" matches for me today, with 2 new ThruLines (one wrong).  I added Notes to 2 new Matches, and added 1 new lines of a  match to my RootsMagic tree.  MyHeritageDNA now has 12,846 DNA matches (up 27 from 9 September) for me.  Reviewed the new DNA matches on AncestryDNA, MyHeritageDNA, FamilyTreeDNA and 23andMe.

13)  Occasionally matched RootsMagic 10 profiles to FamilySearch Family Tree.  I have matched 51,962  of my RootsMagic persons with FamilySearch Family Tree profiles (up 20).

14) Used Web Hints and Record Matches from Ancestry, MyHeritage, Findmypast and FamilySearch to add content and source citations to my RootsMagic profiles. I now have 73,672 persons in my RootsMagic family tree (up 20), and 147,220 source citations (up 25).    TreeShared 130 new and updated profiles with my Ancestry tree.  Resolved 311 Ancestry Hints. My Ancestry Member Tree has Ancestry Record Hints with 31,860 to be resolved, but I work on them several times a week.

15) Wrote 21 Genea-Musings blog posts last week (Sunday through Saturday), of which one was a press release. The most viewed post last week was
"Randy's Roots" - A Genealogy Poem and Song Created by Artificial Intelligence with over 308 views.  Genea-Musings had about 238,000 page views last week and over 995,000 views for the past month.

16)  Real life:  Visited Linda almost every day at her memory care facility and we played Uno.  Went to the grocery store on Monday and Friday.  Finished reading Crashers by Dana Haynes ad started Hunting Time by Jeffrey Deaver.  My Padres went 4-1 this week and are 85-65 on the season - and are in playoff contention.  Watched my SDSU Aztecs lose 31-10 to California.  Watched the Chargers game and they beat the Panthers 26-3 on Sunday.
