Genealogy Pot-Pourri - Week Ending 3 November 2024

Here are the highlights of my family history and genealogy related activities over the past week (ending 3 November 2024).

1)  Attended the Chula Vista Genealogical Society (CVGS) General Meeting on Wednesday with Sunny Jane Morton presenting "Meet PERSI, and Discover Treasures in Genealogy Periodicals."

2)  Attended the San Diego Genealogical Society DNA Interest Group meeting on Saturday with Colin Whitney presenting "DNA Painter 2024."

3)  Watched five WikiTree Symposium presentations over the weekend.

4)  Transcribed the 1878 Mortgage Discharge of Trustees of Robert Cathcart to Lorenz Romain for Land in Middleton Township, Norfolk County, Ontario (which mentions 2nd great-grandfather James A. Kemp) for the Amanuensis Monday theme.

5)  Wrote a genealogical sketch for my 2nd Great-GrandUncle James Alpheus Smith (1833-1902) of Massachusetts and Michigan for the 52 Relatives theme.

6)  Requested six free AI tools to answer a genealogy research question, and posted answers in "Ask AI:  How Can I Make My Genealogy Books/Reports More Engaging For Family Members?"

7)  Used Steve Little's custom ChatGPT Prompt for "Item Identifier" to identify, analyze and summarize an artifact, a photograph, a document, etc. in Stephen Little's "Item Identifier" AI Prompt and Analysis: Juliet Richmond's Death Certificate.

8)  Celebrated Hallowe'en by creating images, poems and a song about genealogy research and Hallowe'en traditions in  A Genealogist's Hallowe'en Tricks and Treats From Artificial Intelligence.

9)  Requested free AI tools to create a poem and song lyrics about my great-grandfather, Frank Walton Seaver (1852-1922)  and had Suno.com create a song.  I posted the poem created by MetaAI, the song lyrics created by Claude AI, and the Suno song MP4 in  "The Combmaker's Tale" -- A Genealogy Poem and Song Created by Artificial Intelligence.

10)  AncestryDNA now has 47,181 DNA matches (up 76 from 27 October) with 1996 "close" matches for me today, with four new ThruLines.  I added Notes to 5 Matches, and added four new DNA match lines to RootsMagic.   MyHeritageDNA now has 12,990 DNA matches (up 20 from 27 October) for me.  Reviewed the new DNA matches on AncestryDNA, MyHeritageDNA, FamilyTreeDNA and 23andMe.

11)  Created more short narrative reports in RootsMagic 10 for more ancestors in New England and added the reports to their Person Notes.  The reports include the info about each person, their parents, their spouse(s), their children, short evemt notes, and sources.  Also continued editing place names in RootsMagic to reflect historical place names rather than current place names.  There are many more to do!

12)  Occasionally matched RootsMagic 10 profiles to FamilySearch Family Tree.  I have matched 52,130 of my RootsMagic persons with FamilySearch Family Tree profiles (up 24).  FamilySearch Records has 3,388 record collections (up 2).  FamilySearch Images has 5.483 billion images (up about 6 million).  Full-Text Search has 141,220 "+seaver" results (no change).

13)  Searched for more records of several ancestral families on Ancestry, FamilySearch and MyHeritage, downloaded record images, and added research notes, events and sources to RootsMagic profiles.  My RootsMagic family tree now has 73,843 profiles (up 38 from last week) and 147,268 source citations (up 19).

14) Wrote 22 Genea-Musings blog posts last week (Sunday through Saturday), of which three were a press release. The most viewed post last week was  "The Painter's Story" -- A Genealogy Poem and Song Created by Artificial Intelligence with over 370 views.  Genea-Musings had about 212,000 page views last week and over 1,079,000 views over the past month.

15)  Real life events:  Visited Linda almost every day at her memory care facility and we played Uno.  Went to the grocery store on Monday and Friday.  Attended the church Men's Bible Study on Saturday.  Finished reading The First Lady by James Patterson and Brendan Dubois, and started The Quickie by James Patterson and Michael Ledwidge.  Watched the last three World Series games, the SDSU Aztecs game on Saturday (they lost, so now 3-5) and the Chargers game on Sunday (they won, so now 5-3).
