Treasure Chest Thursday - 1766 Marriage of Robert Rich and Mary Cook in Trowbridge, Wiltshire

It's Treasure Chest Thursday - an opportunity to look in my digital image files to see what treasures I can find for my family history research and genealogy musings.

The treasure today is the 1766 marriage record of Robert Rich and Mary Cook in the Trowbridge, Wiltshire parish register:

The 1766 marriage entry for Robert Rich and Mary Cook is the bottom entry on the image:

The transcription of the information on this record is (written words are italicized):

The source citation for this census record is:

Wiltshire England Marriages, Trowbridge, Robert Rich and Mary Cook marriage entry, 5 January 1766; imaged, "Wiltshire, England, Church of England Marriages, 1754-1916,"   Ancestry.com ( : accessed 23 October 2024), Trowbridge, St. James with St. Stephen  >  > 1764-1783 > image 16 of 382; Original data in Wiltshire Church of England Parish Registers, Wiltshire and Swindon History Centre, Chippenham, Wiltshire, England.

This is an Original Source record (because it is a church parish record book with information recorded as it occurred) with Primary Information and Direct Evidence of the groom and bride names, marriage date, names of witnesses, and location of the marriage of Robert Rich and Mary Cook.  Note that Mary Cook signed her own name, but Robert Rich did not.  I wonder who "Hamuncadlie" is?

Robert Rich (c1739-1819) was born in about 1739, perhaps in Trowbridge, Wiltshire, tthe son of  unknown parents. Mary Cook (c1740-????) was born in about 1740, perhaps in Trowbridge, Wiltshire, the daughter of unknown parents.  They married 5 January 1766 in St. James with St. Stephen church in Trowbridge, Wiltshire.

Robert and Mary (Cook) Rich are my 5th great-grandparents.  They had at least 3 children, including my 4th great-grandfather William Rich (1766-1835) who married Elizabeth "Betty" Noad (1767-1814) in 1788 in Trowbridge, Wiltshire.
