Best of the Genea-Blogs - 8 to 14 December 2024

Scores of genealogy and family history bloggers write hundreds of posts every week about their research, their families, and their interests. I appreciate each one of them and their efforts.

My criteria for "Best of ..." are pretty simple - I pick posts that advance knowledge about genealogy and family history, address current genealogy issues, provide personal family history, are funny or are poignant. I don't list posts destined for most daily blog prompts or meme submissions (but I do include summaries of them), or my own posts.

Here are my picks for great reads from the genealogy blogs for this past week:

*  Genealogy and the Holidays: Connecting with Family Past and Present by Diane Henriks on Know Who Wears the Genes In Your Family.

*  Extended Family vs. Distant Family Explained by Mercedes Brons on Who Are You Made Of?

*  Programmers Solve Problems Like Genealogists Do by Louis Kessler on Behold Genealogy.

*  Pro Tools Part 17, Pro Tools Part 18 and Pro Tools Part 19  by Jim Bartlett on Segment-ology.

The Hidden Photos In My Late Mother’s Locket: Unraveling the Mysteries of a Grandfather’s Past by Daniella on MyHeritage Blog.

*  Could Volunteer Incentives Revolutionize Genealogical Society Membership? by Jon Marie Pearson on The Simple Living Genealogist.

*  Finding Your Ancestors: Fundamentals – Occupations by Kenneth Msrks on The Ancestor Hunt.

*  3 Family Tree Tasks Need Your Attention by Diann Iamarino Ohana on Fortify Your Family Tree.

*  Documenting Your Family Christmas Traditions by Melissa Barker on A Genealogist In the Archives.

*  How to Write Compelling Family Biographies from Genealogy Research by Hannah on Legacy Tree Genealogists.

*  We All Have a Story to Tell by Paul Chiddicks on Family Wise.

Connecting Generations: Military History in Family Research by Ellen Thompson-Jennings on Hound On the Hunt.

*  FRIDAY FINDS ~ Family Search Full Text Search by Diane Gould Hall on Michigan Family Trails.

*  Top 5 Technology Skills for Family History by Andrew Redfern on GSQ Blog.

Here are pick posts by other geneabloggers this week:

Friday’s Family History Finds by Linda Stufflebean on Empty Branches on the Family Tree.

*  This week’s crème de la crème — December 14, 2024 by Gail Dever on Genealogy a la Carte.

Readers are encouraged to go to the blogs listed above and read their articles, and add the blogs to your Favorites, Feedly, another RSS feed, or email if you like what you read. Please make a comment to them also - all bloggers appreciate feedback on what they write.

Did I miss a great genealogy blog post? Tell me! I currently am reading posts from over 900 genealogy bloggers using Feedly, but I still miss quite a few it seems.
