Randy's Genealogy Pot-Pourri - Week Ending 15 December 2024

Here are the highlights of my family history and genealogy related activities over the past week (ending 15 December 2024).

1)  Attended the Chula Vista Genealogical Society (CVGS) Holiday Celebration on Wednesday at the Bonita Museum and Cultural Center, with 14 attendees.  We had a great time chatting, eating, installing the new Board, and a lively gift exchange.

2)  Attended Mondays With Myrt on 9 December, where we discussed the FamilySearch Catalog, Hillary's post, social media, panelist tips, and holiday traditions in Norway.

3)  Transcribed the 1892 land deed of James and Hannah Whitside to James A. Kemp in Delhi Village, Norfolk County, Ontario for the Amanuensis Monday theme.

5)  Updated the Artificial Intelligence Compendium by adding more links to AI tools, custom prompts, useful websites, useful videos, useful blog posts, and my own posts.

6)  Requested free AI tools to answer a genealogy research question, and posted answers in Ask AI: "What's one thing you can tell me about myself that I may not know about myself?" and

Also asked ChatGPT4 AI to create a Christmas image and song for me - see Ask AI: "Can You Create Song Lyrics and a Festive Graphic For the '12 Days of a Genealogist's Christmas?"

7)  Requested free AI tools to create a poem and song lyrics about my paternal 2nd great-grandmother, Hanna (Rich) Richmond (1824-1911) and had Suno.com create a song using the lyrics.  I posted the poem created by ChatGPT4 AI, the song lyrics created by CoPilot AI, and the Suno song MP4, in  "Hannah's Song" -- An Ancestor's Story In Poem and Song Created by Artificial Intelligence.

9)  My AncestryDNA now has 47,454 DNA matches (up 45 from 8 December) with 2007 "close" matches today (up 2), with one new ThruLines.  I added Notes to 3 Matches, and added no new DNA match lines to RootsMagic.   MyHeritageDNA now has 13,080 DNA matches (up 14 from 8 December) for me.  Reviewed the new DNA matches on AncestryDNA, MyHeritageDNA, FamilyTreeDNA and 23andMe.

10)  Occasionally matched RootsMagic 10 profiles to FamilySearch Family Tree.  I have matched 52,182 of my RootsMagic persons with FamilySearch Family Tree profiles (up 1).

11)  FamilySearch Records has 3,406 record collections (up 1).  FamilySearch Images has over 5.561 billion images (up about 50 million).  Full-Text Search now has 3,231 collections (up 1403) with 812.3 million images (up 76 million) indexed, transcribed and sourced.  Full-Text Search has 240,919 "+seaver" results (up 1,992).

12)  Searched for more records of ancestral families on Ancestry, FamilySearch and MyHeritage, downloaded record images to my digital file folders, and added research notes, events and sources to RootsMagic profiles.  My RootsMagic family tree now has 73,918 profiles (up 21 from last week) and 147,305 source citations (up 9).  Added more short biographical sketches to ancestors and edited historical place names for a number of families.

13) Wrote 23 Genea-Musings blog posts last week (Sunday through Saturday), of which two were guest posts and one was a press release. The most viewed post last week was Ask AI: "Can You Create Song Lyrics and a Festive Graphic For the '12 Days of a Genealogist's Christmas?"  with over 298 views.  Genea-Musings had about 80,700 page views last week and over 670,500 views over the past month.

14)  Real life events:  Visited Linda several days at her memory care facility and we played Uno.  Went to the grocery store on Monday and Friday.  Attended the CVGS holiday celebration on Wednesday.  Daughter Lori came to visit on Thursday and went home on Sundayt.  She helped me sort more stuff, did some chores I struggle with,  and cooked delicious dinners.  I finished reading You've Been Warned by James Patterson and Howard Roughan, and started Hell's Corner by David Baldacci.  My SDSU Aztecs won two basketball games.  My Chargers lost this week's game to the Buccaneers, so now 8-6 on the season.
