Randy's Genealogy Pot-Pourri - Week Ending 8 December 2024

Here are the highlights of my family history and genealogy related activities over the past week (ending 8 December 2024).

1)  Attended the Chula Vista Genealogical Society (CVGS) Board Meeting on Wednesday, and reported on the Newsletter, Research Group and DNA Group.  Wrote, edited and published the December 2024 issue of the Family History Gazette, the CVGS monthly newsletter.

2)  Transcribed the 1892 mortgage indenture of James A. and Melissa Kemp to John Wyatt for Land in Delhi Village, Norfolk County, Ontario for the Amanuensis Monday theme.

4)  Updated the Artificial Intelligence Compendium by adding more links to AI tools, custom prompts, useful websites, useful videos, useful blog posts, and my own posts.

6)  Requested free AI tools to create a poem and song lyrics about my paternal 2nd great-grandfather, James Richman (1821-1912) and had Suno.com create a song using the lyrics.  I posted the poem created by Meta AI, the song lyrics created by Meta AI, and the Suno song MP4, in   "James Richman's Journey" -- An Ancestor's Story In Poem and Song Created by Artificial Intelligence.

8)  My AncestryDNA now has 47,409 DNA matches (up 34 from 1 December) with 2005 "close" matches today (up 1), with no new ThruLines.  I added Notes to 5 Matches, and added no new DNA match lines to RootsMagic.   MyHeritageDNA now has 13,066 DNA matches (up 18 from 1 December) for me.  Reviewed the new DNA matches on AncestryDNA, MyHeritageDNA, FamilyTreeDNA and 23andMe.

9)  Occasionally matched RootsMagic 10 profiles to FamilySearch Family Tree.  I have matched 52,174 of my RootsMagic persons with FamilySearch Family Tree profiles (up 1).

10)  FamilySearch Records has 3,405 record collections (up 16).  FamilySearch Images has over 5.556 billion images (down about 28 million for some reason).  Full-Text Search now has 1,798 collections (down 469 for some reason) with 726.3 million images (up 29.5 million) indexed, transcribed and sourced.  Full-Text Search has 238,927 "+seaver" results (up 10,115).

11)  Searched for more records of ancestral families on Ancestry, FamilySearch and MyHeritage, downloaded record images to my digital file folders, and added research notes, events and sources to RootsMagic profiles.  My RootsMagic family tree now has 73,897 profiles (up 2 from last week) and 147,296 source citations (up 2).  Added more short biographical sketches to ancestors and edited historical place names for a number of families.

13) Wrote 21 Genea-Musings blog posts last week (Sunday through Saturday), of which two were a press release. The most viewed post last week was FamilySearch Full-Text Search Update -- 3 December 2024 with over 379 views.  Genea-Musings had about 93,900 page views last week and over 804,400 views over the past month.

14)  Real life events:  Visited Linda several days at her memory care facility and we played Uno.  Went to the grocery store on Monday and Friday.  Attended the church Mens Group Bible Study breakfast on Saturday.  I'm still reading You've Been Warned by James Patterson and Howard Roughan.  My Aztecs won two basketball games.  My Chargers won last week's game over the Falcons and lost this week's game to the Chiefs.
