An "OldNews" Find in the Leominster Daily Enterprise Newspaper

I've started going through the Old News historical newspaper record collections using the search engines on the MyHeritage Newspapers collections using specific names and locations of my ancestors.

Here is one of my recent finds:

I knew that my paternal grandparents, Frederick W. and Alma Bessie (Richmond) Seaver had bought a house in Leominster, Massachusetts before 1930, and that the house was foreclosed on after 1930, but I did not know the exact dates, who they bought the house from, and who they sold it to, or the price.

This Legal Notice from the Leominster [Mass.] Daily Enterprise newspaper, dated Monday, 19 November 1934 (page 6, column 2) clears up those questions I had:
  • They bought the house at 20 Hall Street in Leominster from Emilie M. Steele on 3 October 1927. The house lot was 5,535 square feet
  • They sold the house at public auction for $500 at the time and place of sale on 18 December 1934, with the unnamed balance to ber paid on delivery of the deed by the Leominster Co-operative Bank.
Perhaps there is another newspaper article that discloses the purchase price.  I still have a lot more articles to search!

This "find" would not be possible without the indexing done by MyHeritage to help researchers find newspaper articles of their ancestors or research targets.

Disclosure: I receive a complimentary subscription to MyHeritage (and OldNews), and have received other material consideration in past years. I uploaded my autosomal DNA raw data to their DNA product. This does not affect my objective analysis of MyHeritage products. I am a paid subscriber to Family Tree Webinars and love it.

I have had extraordinarily good luck using Old News, not just in the US but also for Montreal ancestors.
