Randy's Genealogy Pot-Pourri - Week Ending 9 February 2025

Here are the highlights of my family history and genealogy related activities over the past week (ending Sunday, 9 February 2025).

1)  Attended the CVGS Board Meeting on Wednesday.  I reported on my Newsletter, Research Group and DNA Interest Group responsibilities.

Also wrote, edited and published the February 2025 CVGS newsletter to the membership.

2)  Attended the San Diego Genealogical Society Program meeting on Saturday, with Dawn Carlile as the speaker.

3)  Received my MyStories book from MyHeritage, and wrote about it in Introducing MyStories: A New Service to Turn Cherished Memories into a Printed Keepsake Book and My MyHeritage MyStories Book: "Randy Seaver's Life Stories."

4)  Transcribed the 1885 Mortgage Discharge of Alexander Sovereen from Robert Thompson Livingstone for Land in Norfolk County, Ontario for the Amanuensis Monday theme.

5)  Wrote a genealogical sketch for my 2nd Great-GrandUncle John Richman (1816-1884) of Hilperton, Wiltshire for the 52 Relatives theme.

7)  Requested free AI tools to tell me about these genealogy subjects:
8)  Requested free AI tools to create a poem and song lyrics commemorating the life of my 2nd great-grandmother, Abigiail A. "Abbey" (Vaux) Smith (1844-1931), and had Suno.com create a song using the lyrics.  I posted the poem created by Grok and the song lyrics by Claude Sonnet 3.5, and the Suno song MP4, in "Abbey's Journey" --- A Family History Poem and Song Created by Artificial Intelligence.

9)  My AncestryDNA now has 48,088 DNA matches (up 121 from 2 February) with 2038 "close" matches today (up 6), with 1 new ThruLines.  I added Notes to 3 Matches, and added 1 new DNA match line to RootsMagic.   MyHeritageDNA now has 13,244 DNA matches (up 27 from 2 February) for me.  Reviewed the new DNA matches on AncestryDNA, MyHeritageDNA, FamilyTreeDNA and 23andMe.

10)  Occasionally matched RootsMagic 10 profiles to FamilySearch Family Tree.  I have matched 52,294 of my RootsMagic persons with FamilySearch Family Tree profiles (up 15).

11)  Searched for more records of ancestral families on Ancestry, FamilySearch and MyHeritage, downloaded record images to my digital file folders, and added research notes, events and sources to RootsMagic profiles.  My RootsMagic family tree now has 74,074 profiles (up 19 from last week) and 147,357 source citations (up 5).  Added more short biographical sketches to ancestors and edited historical place names for a number of families.

12) Wrote 21 Genea-Musings blog posts last week (Sunday through Saturday), of which four were a press release. The most viewed post last week was MyHeritage Introduces Ethnicity Estimate v2.5 with over 328 views.  Genea-Musings had about 21,400 page views last week and over 318,000 views over the past month.

13)  Real life events:  Visited Linda several days at her memory care facility and we played Uno.  Went to the grocery store on Monday and Friday.  Went to the family practice doctor on Friday and things look pretty good.  Finished reading Rooster Bar by John Grisham and started Night of Thunder by Stephen Hunter.  My SDSU Aztecs were 0-1 in college basketball, so are now 15-6.  The Super Bowl wasn't a very competitive game.
