Randy's Genealogy Pot-Pourri - Week Ending 13 April 2025

Here are the highlights of my family history and genealogy related activities over the past week (ending Sunday, 13 April 2025).

1)  Hosted and moderated the Chula Vista Genealogical Society Research Group Meeting on Wednesday.  I reported on the new FamilySearch Catalog, the Family Tree Webinars 24-hour genealogy maration, and the latest Artificial Intelligence news, plus my own work over the past month. We discussed our brickwall problems, challenges and successes.

2)  Attended the San Diego Genealogical Society program meeting on Saturday.  Diane Henriks presenting "Break Down Those Genealogy Brick Walls!" and "A Closer Look at the 1850-1950 U.S. Census Records in Genealogy."

3)  Transcribed the 1761 Deed of  Michael Metcalf to William Woods for Land in Cheshire County, New Hampshire from FamilySearch Full-Text Search.

4)  Wrote a genealogical sketch for 2nd Great-GrandUncle Willoiam Rich (1830-1914) of Hilperton, Wiltshire and Putnam, Connecticut for the 52 Relatives theme.

5) Curated genealogy-related articles  to keep myself and my readers updated on the genealogy world in:
7)  Requested free AI tools to tell me about these genealogy subjects:

8)  Requested free AI tools to create a poem and song lyrics about my 3rd greatgrandmother, Elizabeth Horton (Dill) Smith (1791-1869), and had Suno.com create a song using the lyrics.  Posted the poem created by Grok 3 and the song lyrics by Grok 3, and the Suno song link, in "Elizabeth's Light" -- A Family History Poem and Song Created by Artificial Intelligence.

    9)  Created a Genea-Musings page for my own AI posts on the new Randy's Genealogy and AI page.  The Genealogy and AI community information is still on the AI and Genealogy Compendium page.

    10)  My AncestryDNA now has 48,903 DNA matches (up 86 from 6 April) with 2076 "close" matches today (up 5), with one new ThruLines (it had wrong genealogy).  Added Notes to 1 Matches, and added no new DNA match lines to RootsMagic.   MyHeritageDNA now has 13,423 DNA matches (up 14 from 6 April) for me.  Reviewed the new DNA matches on AncestryDNA, MyHeritageDNA, FamilyTreeDNA and 23andMe.

    11)  Occasionally matched RootsMagic 10 profiles to FamilySearch Family Tree.  I have matched 52,572 of my RootsMagic persons with FamilySearch Family Tree profiles (up 5).

    12)  Searched for more records of ancestral families on Ancestry, FamilySearch and MyHeritage, downloaded record images to my digital file folders, and added research notes, events and sources to RootsMagic profiles.  My RootsMagic family tree now has 74,363 profiles (up 12 from last week) and 147,430 source citations (up 11).  Added more short biographical sketches and source citations to ancestors, and edited historical place names for a number of families.

    13) Wrote 20 Genea-Musings blog posts last week (Sunday through Saturday), of which two were  a press release. The most viewed post last week was Ask AI: "Please Describe a Day in the Life of My 3rd Great-Grandmother, Mary Ann Vaux (1816-1882)"  with over 225 views.  Genea-Musings had about 109,00page views last week and over 290,000 views over the past month.

    14)  Real life events:  Visited Linda several days at her memory care facility and we played Uno. Went to the grocery store on Monday and Friday.  Caught a cold on Friday somehow. Still reading The Edge by David Baldacci.  The Padres season continues and I watched all of the games this week - they were 5-1 this week (overall 13-3 now).
