52 Relatives: 2nd Great-GrandAunt Harriet A. White (1836-????) of New England

 Harriet A. White was born in about 1836 in Glocester, Providence County, Rhode Island, the third child and only daughter of Jonathan and Miranda (Wade) White.  Her siblings were Henry Arnold White (1824-1885), who married Amy Oatley in 1844, and Albert Henry White (1827-1910) who married Olive Griffith in 1866.

Her father, Jonathan White (1804-1850) died on 19 April 1850 in Killingly, Windham County, Connecticut.  Harriet was put in her mtoher's care in Jonathan's will.

In the 1850 US census, the remnant of the Jonathan White family resided in Killingly, Windham County, Connecticut.  The household included:

  • Albert H. White -- age 23, male, a farmer, $1200 in real property, born Glocester RI
  • Harriet A. White -- age 14, female, born Glocester RI
  • Maranda White -- age 46, female, born Glocester RI.

Harriet's mother, Miranda (Wade) White died 27 August 1850 in Killingly, Windham County, Connecticut.  Perhaps she was cared for by her brother Albert H. White until she either died or married.  Since she was age 14 in 1850, perhaps she chose a guardian to live with and changed her name.

There are no further census, marriage, death, burial, newspaper, or probate records available for Harriet A. White.

                        ===========================================

Harriet A. White (1836-????) is my 2nd great-grandaunt and sister of my 2nd great-grandfather, Henry Arnold White (1824-1885).   Is she a "lost person" dying before adulthood, or was she assimilated into a family without leaving a trace?

I have posted over 500 genealogical sketches of  my ancestors back through the 7th great-.grandparents and a number of close relatives.  Information about his father, Jonathan White (1804-1850) is in 52 Ancestors in 52 Weeks - Week 37: #44 Jonathan White (1804-1850).

The "52 Relatives" theme is a weekly series to document the lives of siblings of my ancestors with relatively short genealogical sketches, including important events, and with source citations.  These relatives lived and died within a family structure, and deserve a genealogical sketch - they were integral parts and important persons in the lives of my ancestral families.

I add links to the 52 Ancestors and 52 Relatives sketches on the 52 Ancestors/Relatives Biographies page, in my Ancestry Member Tree, in WikiTree, and in the FamilySearch Family Tree.
