Ancestors In the News - 1913 Obituary of Juliett Richmond (1848-1913) of Putnam, Connecticut

Here is this week's edition of "Ancestors in the News" - a weekly feature from the historical newspapers about persons with the surname Seaver that are interesting, useful, mysterious, fun, macabre, or add information to my family tree database.

This week's entry is from the Norwich [Conn.] Bulletin newspaper dated Saturday, 2 October 1913 1962, page 3, column g:


The transcription of the article is:

"Mrs. Thomas Richmond

"Juliett White, wife of Thomas Richmond, died Wednesday morning at 6 o'clock at her home, Church street, at the age of 66 years.  Mrs. Richmond had been ill for one year.  She was born in East Killingly, the daughter of Henry and Amy (Oatley) White. In 1868 she married Thomas Richmond, since when they have lived in Elmville and Putnam. Mr. Richmond being an overseer in the mill of the Putnam Woolen company the past three years.

"Mrs. Richmond is survived by her husband, three sons and four daughters -- Everett, Chapman street, Putnam; Mrs. Annie Pickford and James Richmond, Clinton, Mass.; Mrs. Grace Shaw, Edward Richmond, Mrs. Bessie Seaver, Leominster, Mass.; Mrs. Emily Taylor, San Diego, Cal.  Mrs. Richmond leaves about 20 grandchildren. She was a devoted member of the St. Philip's church here."

This obituary provides the name, age, birth place, husband's name, residence, death date and place, and  names and residences of her children.

Julia E. "Juliett" (White) Richmond (1848-1913) was born 8 September 1848 in Killingly, Connecticut, the daughter of Henry and Amy (Oatley) White.  She married Thomas Richmond (1848-1917) on 20 June 1868 in Killingly, Connecticut.  They had nine children, eight lived to adulthood.

Julia E. "Juliett" (White) Richmond) (1848-1913) is my great-grandmother, the mother of my paternal grandmother, Alma Bessie (Richmond) Seaver (1882-1962).
