Genealogy Rockstar Nominations Are Now Open - Until 14 October

John D. Reid, author of Canada's Anglo-Celtic Connections blog, holds a "Genealogy Rockstar election" every year.

Nominations for 2017 are now open - see John's blog post "Rockstar Genealogist Nominations Are Open."

John's criteria for a Rockstar is:

"Rockstar genealogists are those who give "must attend" presentations at family history conferences or as webinars, who when you see a new family history article or publication by that person, makes it a must buy. If you hang on their every word on a blog, podcast or newsgroup, or follow avidly on Facebook or Twitter they are likely Rockstar candidates. For clarity, it's about communication and influence not who's the best researcher."

John pruned the very long list of nominations from last year to include about ten from the USA, Canada, Australia/New Zealand and British Isles.  However, readers can nominate others to be in the competition.  For instance, Thomas W. Jones was not included in the original list, and is probably one of the real Rockstars of genealogy, in my humble opinion.

The nomination rules have changed:

"The list is open for further nominations until 2pm ET Saturday 14 October. As people who proved to get few votes were previously nominated two nominations will now be required. To do so send an email with your name, contact information and reason for the nomination, see the criteria below, to johndreid at gmail dot com. Then arrange for someone else to nominate. I will verify and only include those I judge have a fair chance of rating in the top ten for their country/region."

Now it takes a bit of planning and collaboration.  I note that several persons have been added to the nominee list since I first saw it on Sunday.

Voting on the Rockstar Genealogists will probably start on 15 October.
