50 Most Popular Genealogy Websites for 2011

The latest ranking of Genealogy Websites has been compiled by Kory Meyerink of ProGenealogists and listed at 50 Most Popular Genealogy Websites for 2011.

Number one on the "hit parade" is, of course, Ancestry.com.

I continue to be surprised that more people don't use www.FamilySearch.org.  It is at #4, which it was also in 2010.

Other surprises for me include:

http://www.genealogy.com/ - ranked at #5.  I don't know anyone that uses this as a database site, do you?  It can't be all Genforum message boards and the hosted web sites, can it?

www.FamilyLink.com - seriously, does anyone really use this site?  This may be a hangover from the application on Facebook, which I doubt many people use.

www.WorldVitalRecords.com fell pretty far in the rankings

www.AmericanAncestors.org climbed into the Top 50 at #49.

www.FindMyPast.co.uk climbed high into the Top 50

www.Geneanet.org climbed high into the Top 50

The one site that I use quite a bit that is not in the Top 50 is the www.USGenWeb.org site.  I think that, since the links on the site go to state sites with their own URL, it is down in the rankings because of that - users go there to use the link to the state GenWeb site and then to a county GenWeb site.

It would be interesting to know what the average monthly visits to each website is.

Which ratings surprise you - do you think they're too high or too low?  What websites do you use that are not on this list?

I agree, Randy. Those sure don't look like the top 50 to me. Where's Cyndi's List? I think Kory Meyerink is out of the loop.
