Best of the Genea-Blogs - 26 February to 3 March 2012

Hundreds of genealogy and family history bloggers write thousands of posts every week about their research, their families, and their interests. I appreciate each one of them and their efforts.

My criteria for "Best of ..." are pretty simple - I pick posts that advance knowledge about genealogy and family history, address current genealogy issues, provide personal family history, are funny or are poignant. I don't list posts destined for the genealogy carnivals, or other meme submissions (but I do include summaries of them), or my own posts.

Here are my picks for great reads from the genealogy blogs for this past week:

*  Simple and complex genealogical conclusions by Michael Hait on the Planting the Seeds blog.  I love charts that help me organize my thoughts and appreciate people who create them.  Michael created a chart to define a "simple conclusion" and a "complex conclusion."  Well done!

*  "SNiP of the Week" - News from the World of Genetic Genealogy by CeCe Moore on the Your Genetic Genealogist blog.  CeCe discusses the Blair Underwood DNA find on WDYTYA, and more!

*  WDYTYA Live 2012 - Part 1: the review, WDYTYA Live 2012 - Part 2: the news, and WDYTYA Live 2012 - Part 3: the pics! by Chris Paton on the British GENES (British Genealogy News and Events) blog.  Chris shares his weekend activities at the WDYTYA Live conference.  Some interesting FindMyPast news here.

*  WDYTYA Live – Day OneWDYTYA Live – Day Two, and WDYTYA Live – Day Three  by Nicola Epsom on The Genealogy workshop blog.  Nicola shares her experiences.  I was intrigued by her presentation summaries.

*  First Day at WDYTYA? Live in London,   WDYTYA Day Two and Final Day at WDYTYA Live 2012 by Tim Firkowski on The Genealogy Assistant blog.  Tim reports on WDYTYA Live from an American perspective.  Check out Tim's extensive photo collection too.

*  The beer bust and the surety bond and Guardians for the kids? by Judy G. Russell on The Legal Genealogist blog.  Judy helps a reader analyze a probate record and offers advice on what to search for next; then she discusses guardianship.

*  Bill Mangum–What’s New with FamilySearch in 2012?' by the writer of The Ancestry Insider blog.  Mr. AI attended a talk at the St. George Expo and shares what he learned.

*  WDYTYAL--My observations about British genealogists, WDYTYAL - Pictures 1, and WDYTYAL--What has caused the excitement in England and why are they able to have so much interest in genealogy?  by Janet Hovorka on The Chart Chick blog.  Janet has some really interesting observations here.

*  Solving the Mystery of Lady Diana Taylour – The mystery is solved by Ruth Blair on The Passionate Genealogist blog.  Ruth describes the solution to her mystery.  A fascinating story found delving into a range of records.

*  Hello, Jemima! Now Wait Your Turn… by Dawn Watson on the Digging In the Roots blog.  Dawn's (imaginary) conversation with other researchers, and her ancestor, sounds familiar.  Funny, too.  Great post!

*  Carnival of Genealogy, 115th Edition by Jasia on the Creative Gene blog.  There were ten entries for this monthly carnival on the topic of "Flash Family History" (writing a family history in 300 words or less).

Several genea-bloggers wrote weekly pick posts and news summary posts this week, including:

*  Monday Morning Mentions by Lynn Palermo on The Armchair Genealogist blog.

*  Ruth's Recommendations by Ruth Blair on The Passionate Genealogist blog.

*  February Roundup, spring flowers edition by Karen K on The Road Backward blog.

Genealogy Round Up, March 1 by Megan Smolenyak on the Megan Smolenyak Smolenyak's Roots World blog

*  Follow Friday: This Week's Favorite Finds by Jen on the Climbing My Family Tree blog.

*  Notable Genealogy Blog Posts, 4  March 2012 by Micheal Hait on the Planting the Seeds blog.

*  Fab Finds in Genealogy for the Week of 4 March 2012 by GenuinelyLAF on the 1 Ancestry 2 Little Time blog.

I encourage readers to go to the blogs listed above and read their articles, and add their blogs to your Favorites, Google Reader, RSS feed or email if you like what you read. Please make a comment to them also - all bloggers appreciate feedback on what they write.

Did I miss a great genealogy blog post? Tell me! I am currently reading posts from over 1200 genealogy bloggers using Google Reader, but I still miss quite a few it seems.

Thanks for taking the time to look at my blog and mention it here, I'm honoured. I find your recommendations really helpful - have just been reading Janet's (Chart Chick) observations on us Brits - fascinating!
I loved every minute of WDYTYA Live and learnt something from every presentation I attended.
