Best of the Genea-Blogs - 22 to 28 July 2012

Hundreds of genealogy and family history bloggers write thousands of posts every week about their research, their families, and their interests. I appreciate each one of them and their efforts.

My criteria for "Best of ..." are pretty simple - I pick posts that advance knowledge about genealogy and family history, address current genealogy issues, provide personal family history, are funny or are poignant. I don't list posts destined for the genealogy carnivals, or other meme submissions (but I do include summaries of them), or my own posts.

Here are my picks for great reads from the genealogy blogs for this past week:

*  Lineage Societies and the Genealogical Proof Standard and Probability in Genealogy by John D. Reid on the Anglo-Celtic Connections blog.  John thinks that probabilistic approaches should be used in lineage society applications and BCG applications. Read the comments too!

*  "It's Just for My Family" by Michael Leclerc on the Mocavo Genealogy Blog.  Excellent post by Michael encouraging all genealogists to cite their sources.

*  GRIP Registration Day Recap,  GRIP Day 1 Recap, GRIP Day 2 Recap, GRIP Day 3 (AKA, My 20th Anniversary),  and Losing My GRIP: Days 4 and 5 by Chris Staats on the Staats Place blog.  Chris is taking "Advanced Research Methods" with Tom Jones.

*  GRIP Pittsburgh Day One Recap, GRIP Day Two: Getting Into the Groove by Denise Levenick on The Family Curator blog. Denise reports on th "Intermediate Genealogy: Tools for Digging Deeper" class at GRIP with Paula Stuart-Warren.

*  GRIP 2012: Day 1, GRIP 2012: Day 2, GRIP: Day 3,  by Cathi Desmarais on the Stone House Historical Research blog.  Cathi reports on the "Advanced Research Methods" class at GRIP with Tom Jones.

* GRIPitt - Sunday Night,  GRIP - Monday Evening,  GRIP - Tuesday Evening, GRIP - Wednesday Evening, GRIP - Thursday Evening, and GRIP-Friday by Karen Blackmore on Karen's Genealogy Oasis blog.  Karen reports on the  "Intermediate Genealogy: Tools for Digging Deeper" class at GRIP with Paula Stuart-Warren.

*  What to Keep and What to Toss?  My Cluttered Cloud by Annette Kapple on the AK's Genealogy Research blog.  Annette is trying to sort out her digital files - I like her comments and classification systems.

*  Ancestry.com Laps FamilySearch in Indexing Horse Race by the writer of The Ancestry Insider blog.  Mr. AI covers the bases, then asks Ancestry.com for information about their index quality.

Several genea-bloggers wrote weekly pick posts and news summary posts this week, including:

I encourage readers to go to the blogs listed above and read their articles, and add their blogs to your Favorites, Google Reader, RSS feed or email if you like what you read. Please make a comment to them also - all bloggers appreciate feedback on what they write.

Did I miss a great genealogy blog post? Tell me! I am currently reading posts from over 1280 genealogy bloggers using Google Reader, but I still miss quite a few it seems.
