They're coming to take SSDI away...

There is more information about the effort on the part of Congressional committees to take away, or restrict access, of the Social Security Death Master File (we know it as the Social Security Death Index).

Several blog posts have been written in recent days about this - please refer to:

*  Losing ground on the SSDI by Judy G. Russell on The Legal Genealogist blog.

*  New Legislation Would Close the SSDI for 2 Years by Barbara Mathews on The MGC Sentinel blog.

*  The Bottom Line on Tax Fraud? $5 Billion per Year by Barbara Mathews on The MGC Sentinel blog.

*  Update from Public Records Access Monitoring Committee of IAJGS by Polly Kimmitt on The MGC Sentinel blog.

*  The Price of the Right to Access by Michael Leclerc on the Mocavo Genealogy Blog.

*  Stopping Tax Fraud Without Closing the Death Master File by Polly Fitzgerald Kimmitt on The MGC Sentinel blog.

*  Also see the SSDI Call to Action Kit on the FGS Records Preservation and Access Committee site.

I will post more about this as information is added to the knowledge of the genea-blogosphere!

If you know of other recent posts on this subject, please let me know in comments.

I honestly wonder why people have to resort to going so low as to pretend to be someone else. Is it really worth having to face fraud lawyers and possible jail time in the end?
