Best of the Genea-Blogs - Week of 9 to 15 July 2017

Hundreds of genealogy and family history bloggers write thousands of posts every week about their research, their families, and their interests. I appreciate each one of them and their efforts.

My criteria for "Best of ..." are pretty simple - I pick posts that advance knowledge about genealogy and family history, address current genealogy issues, provide personal family history, are funny or are poignant. I don't list posts destined for daily blog prompts or meme submissions (but I do include summaries of them), or my own posts.

Here are my picks for great reads from the genealogy blogs for this past week:

*  California Statutes - A Lesson Learned From Judy Russell by Sheri Fenley on The Educated Genealogist blog.

*  Unprocessed Records Collections in the Archives  by Melissa Barker on A Genealogist in the Archives blog.

*  Are Genealogical Societies Evolving? and The Citizen Specialist by Jacqi Stevens on the A Family Tapestry blog.

*  California Digital Collections to Help You Strike Genealogy Gold by Elizabeth O'Neal on the Legacy News blog.

*  6 Lessons From an Ancestry Message by Joanne Cowden on the Researching Relatives blog.

*  50 Essential Genealogy Tech Tools by Linda Stufflebean on the Empty Branches on the Family Tree blog.

*  The Best Newspaper Site for Your Genealogy by Amy Johnson Crow on the Amy Johnson Crow blog.

* The New Change in AncestryDNA's Test Activation Process by History Chick on the Genealogical Musings blog.

*  No Longer Invisible by Melvin Collier on the Roots Revealed blog.

Here are pick posts by other geneabloggers this week:

Friday Fossicking 14th July 2017 by Crissouli on the That Moment In Time blog.

*  Friday's Family History Finds by Linda Stufflebean on the Empty Branches on the Family Tree blog.

*  High Fives - July 14, 2017 by Dianne Nolin on the Genealogy: Beyond the BMD blog.

*  Friday Finds, 14 July 2017 by Lois Willis on the Lois Willis - Genealogy and Family History blog.

Friday Finds 14 July 2017 by Nichelle Barra on the Copper Leaf Genealogy blog.

Jana's Genealogy Fab Finds for July 7, 2017 by Jana Last on Jana's Genealogy and Family History Blog.

This Week's Creme de la Creme -- July 15, 2017 by Gail Dever on the Genealogy a la Carte blog.

Readers are encouraged to go to the blogs listed above and read their articles, and add their blogs to your Favorites, Feedly, another RSS feed, or email if you like what you read. Please make a comment to them also - all bloggers appreciate feedback on what they write.

Did I miss a great genealogy blog post? Tell me! I am currently reading posts from over 1600 genealogy bloggers using Feedly, but I still miss quite a few it seems.

Thanks for mentioning my series this week, Randy. Local genealogy societies mean a lot to me and I hope we all do what we can to make them pertinent to the needs of our communities. I know you certainly do in your part of the state!

Seaver! thanks for the shout out in your post this week. I'm trying to make a real effort to blog more often.
