Today's Tuesday's Treasure is the 1914 San Diego High School yearbook entry for my grandfather, Lyle L. Carringer:
Lyle's entry:
The transcription of Lyle's entry is:
"CARRINGER, LYLE LAWRENCE -- Sherman School -- Engineering Prep course -- Spanish Club, 3; Class Baseball, 4."
The source citation for this record is:
The Russ (San Diego, Calif. : unknown publisher, 1914), San Diego High School Yearbook, page 25, Lyle Lawrence Carringer entry; book page image obtained from San Diego High School Alumni Association History Center, San Diego High School, San Diego, Calif.
The brief description of Lyle indicates that he came from Sherman (elementary school), enrolled in an engineering preparatory course, participated in the Spanish Club in year 3, and was on a class baseball team in Year 4. There is a photograph of the baseball team, but I did not see Lyle in the photograph. There is a photograph of the 1913-14 graduating class, but I did not see Lyle in that photograph either.
My friend, and San Diego genealogy colleague, Yvette Porter Moore, is also a graduate of San Diego High School, and is current Historian of the SDHS Alumni Association. When she told me that on Facebook, I asked her if there were any school records, besides Yearbooks, for me, my mother, and my grandparents. There were!! Yvette copied them for me and sent them via email. I was genea-smacked by them. What treasures.
