Treasure Chest Tuesday -- 1885 Colorado State Census Record for D.J. Carringer Household

The treasure today is the 1885 Colorado State Census record for the David J. Carringer household in Boulder, Boulder County, Colorado:

The D.J. Carringer family entry is on the left-hand page:

The extracted information for the D.J. Carringer family is:

*  D. J. Carringer - white, male, age 56, married, a fruit grower, born Pa., father born Pa, mother born Ohio
*  Rebecca Carringer - white, female, age 53, wife, married, housework, born Pa., father born Pa., mother born Pa.
*  Harvey E. Carringer - white, male, age 28, son, single, a clerk, born Pa., father born Pa., mother born Pa.

The source citation for this entry is:

"Colorado State Census, 1885," online database, Ancestry.com (http://www.ancestry.com : accessed 29 May 2012), County of Boulder, Enumeration district 1, Page 102 (penned), dwelling #1163, family #1177, D.J. Carringer household entry.

In this 1885 state census, D.J. Carringer was a fruit grower, his wife Rebecca was doing housework, and his son Harvey was a clerk.  All were born in Pennsylvania.  I wonder where the son Henry Austin Carringer was?  He was with them in the 1880 United States census.  My guess is that he is proving up his land in Cheyenne County, Kansas in this time period.

David Jackson (D.J.) and Rebecca (Spangler) Carringer are my 2nd great-grandparents through their son Henry Austin Carringer (1853-1946), my great-grandfather, who married Abbie Ardell (Della) Smith (1864-1944) in 1887 in Wano, Kansas.

You tittle the census as "Iowa" instead of "Colorado""

Hi Monte,

Thanks - fixed it. The perils of copy - paste and inattention to detail.
