Monday Genea-Pourri - 25 March 2019

Here is a summary of my family history and genealogy related activities over the past week:

1)  Moderated the Chula Vista Genealogical Society DNA Interest Group on Wednesday, with 19 in attendance.  I reviewed the latest DNA Central newsletter, AncestryDNA's updated DNA Matches features and ThruLines features, the MyHeritage Theory of Family Relativity and AutoClusters features, and the Genetic Genealogy Tips and Techniques group on Facebook.  Several attendees shared their questions and challenges on DNA research.

2)  Found and transcribed the 1837 deed of Otis Seaver selling land in Townsend, Mass. to my 3rd great-grandfather, Zachariah Hildreth (1783-1857) for Amanuensis Monday.

3)  Wrote and posted a biography of 6th great-grandmother #443 Abigail (Worthen) Colby (1714-????) of Amesbury, Massachusetts and Chester, New Hampshire  for my 52 Ancestors post on Friday.

4)  Watched one Family Tree Webinar -
The Five-story Fall: Correlating Indirect and Direct Evidence to Extend the Pedigree, by Debbie Mieszala.

5)  Participated in today's Mondays With Myrt.  Today's webinar discussed Debbie Wayne's new DNA book; how to handle requests to join an Ancestry tree; the new map overlay feature on The Genealogist; Hilary attended  funeral and saw family photos; Facebook group listings and secret groups; image problems on FamilySearch; filling a FOREVER box; and finding cousins on the We're Related mobile app.

6) There were several sessions working in the RootsMagic software program to update FamilySearch Family Tree profiles for Seaver families and other ancestral families, with occasional additions to the RootsMagic profiles. I have matched 30,041 of my RootsMagic persons with FSFT.  Updated and cleaned up the Family Tree profiles for three ancestors, including life sketches, sources and notes.

7)  I continue to use Web Hints and Record Matches from Ancestry, MyHeritage, Findmypast and FamilySearch to add content and sources to my RootsMagic profiles.  I now have 53,032 persons in my RootsMagic file, and 103,124 source citations.   I TreeShared two times during the last week (about 325 profiles), and resolved about 650 Ancestry Hints.  I've fallen behind on the Ancestry Record Hints with 105,584 to be resolved, but I work on them weekly.

8)  We celebrated our 49th wedding anniversary last week with a trip to Disneyland with Tami and her three children.
I went on Matterhorn with the girls, on Buzz Lightyear with Charlie, and Pirates of the Caribbean with Linda and Tami.  I walked 14,000 steps, while Linda rode a motorized wheelchair.

9) Wrote 18 Genea-Musings blog posts last week, of which two were press releases.  The most popular post last week was Guest Post: If You Don't Look at the Original Record, You're Missing Out! with over 403 views.

Congratulations to you and Linda on your 49th! What a great way to spend it. Our kids have arranged for over 20 of the kids, grandkids and great-grandkids to gather here in Colorado in a 12 BR rental home to celebrate our 60th at Thanksgiving. We have lots to be Thankful for!
