Treasure Chest Thursday -- 1662 Birth Record of Abiell Ellise in Medfield, Massachusetts

It's Treasure Chest Tuesday - a chance to look in my digital image files to see what treasures I can find for my family history and genealogy musings.

The treasure today is the 1662 birth record of Abiell Ellise in the Medfield, Massachusetts town vital record book:

The birth record is the first entry for ELLISE:

The transcription of this record is:

"ELLISE (see Elice, Elise, Ellic, Ellice, Ellis), Abiell, d[aughter]. Thomas and Mary, Oct. 15, 1662"

The source citation for this record is:

Vital Records of Medfield, Massachusetts to the Year 1850 (Boston, Mass. : New England Historic Genealogical Society, 1903), Births, page 49, Abiell Ellice entry, 15 October 1662.

This is a Derivative Source record for the birth of Abiel Ellis. It is Primary Information and Direct Evidence of the birth date and place, and the name Abiell Ellise and her parents.  The original record is probably a Medfield town record that has been lost over the centuries.

Abiel Ellis (1662-1716) was the daughter of Thomas and Mary (Wight) Ellis of Medfield.  She married Zechariah Barber (1656-1705) in 1683 in Medfield; he was the son of George and Elizabeth (Clarke) Barber of Medfield, Massachusetts.  Zechariah and Abiel (Ellis) Barber are my 7th great-grandparents, through their daughter Ruth Barber (1696-1761), who married Henry Smith (1680-1743) in 1730.
