Seavers in The News - Harold Adelbert Seaver Dies in 1940 at Age 21

It's time for another edition of "Seavers in the News" - a weekly feature from the historical newspapers about persons with the surname Seaver that are interesting, useful, mysterious, fun, macabre, or add information to my family tree database.

This week's entry is from The Argus-Leader [Sioux Falls, S.D.] newspaper dated 19 March 1940:

The transcription of the article is:

"Harold A. Seaver

"Garden City, S.D. -- Funeral services were held this afternoon at the Methodist church in Garden City for Harold Adelbert Seaver, 21, who died at the farm home of his parents near Garden City Friday morning.  Death resulted from heart ailment and complications.  He had been ill ever since the time of his graduation from high school in 1936.  Survivors include his parents, Mr. and Mrs. D.L. Seaver, one sister, Mrs. Alice Kelly of Garden City, and three brothers, Lester Seaver of Okanagan,. Wash., and Howard and Robert, at home."

The source citation is:

This obituary provides a full name, an age, death date, a death place, names of his father and fur siblings.

Harold Adelbert Seaver (1918-1940) was born 9 April 1918 in Garden City, South Dakota, the son of Delbert Lee and Ada Mildred (Wenner) Seaver.  He died 16 March 1940.  He was not married.

Harold Adelbert Seaver is my 9th cousin 1 time removed, with the common Seaver ancestor being Robert Seaver (1608-1683) of Roxbury, Massachusetts.

There are over 9,000 Seaver "stories" in my family tree - and this was one of them.   Life happens, accidentally and intentionally, and some people died at a young age through no fault of their own.  I am glad that I can honor my distant cousin Harold Adelbert Seaver today.

You never know when a descendant or relative will find this blog post and learn something about their ancestors or relatives, or will provide more information about them to me.
