Best of the Genea-Blogs - 8 to 14 January 2023

Scores of genealogy and family history bloggers write hundreds of posts every week about their research, their families, and their interests. I appreciate each one of them and their efforts.

My criteria for "Best of ..." are pretty simple - I pick posts that advance knowledge about genealogy and family history, address current genealogy issues, provide personal family history, are funny or are poignant. I don't list posts destined for daily blog prompts or meme submissions (but I do include summaries of them), or my own posts.

Here are my picks for great reads from the genealogy blogs for this past week:

*  New Geneagem – Emigrant Guides: Travel Brochures From the Past by Linda Stufflebean on Empty Branches on the Family Tree.

Hidden Genealogy Clues by Kenneth Marks on The Ancestor Hunt.

*  My Top 10 Genealogy Tips by Paul Chiddicks on The Chiddicks Family Tree.

*  How and Why to Create a Free FamilySearch Account and Add Yourself to the Family Tree by Alice Childs on AliceChilds.com.

*  When You Are Stuck: Some Ideas by Michael John Neill on Genealogy Tip of the Day.

*  Saving Your Genealogy FOREVER – Step One and Two (Step Three Coming Soon) by Ellen Thompson-Jennings on Hound on the Hunt.

*  How to Tell if a Hint is Any Good by DiAnn Iamarino on Fortify Your Family Tree.

*  RootsMagic to WikiTree Part 2 by Marcia Philbrick on Heartland Genealogy.

*  New Tool for DNA Segment Pattern Analysis by Nicole Dyer on Family Locket.

*  Ancestry has a family history game that may pique your family’s interest in their ancestors by Gail Dever on Genealogy a la Carte.

*  6 Signs of Misattributed Parentage in Your Genetic Family Tree by Paul Woodbury on Legacy Tree Genealogists.

*  Are you Googling Your Ancestors? by Gena Philibert-Ortega on Legacy News.

*  Digging for Deaths: Understanding the Census Mortality Schedule by Katherine on Legacy Tree Genealogists.

*  The Surprising Origins of the Coryell Family of Colonial New Jersey by Adam Brown on Avotaynu Online.

Here are pick posts by other geneabloggers this week:

Friday's Family History Finds by Linda Stufflebean on Empty Branches on the Family Tree.

Friday Fossicking 13th Jan 2023 by Crissouli on That Moment In Time.

* This Week's Creme de la Creme - January 14, 2023  by Gail Dever on Genealogy a la Carte.

Readers are encouraged to go to the blogs listed above and  read their articles, and add the blogs to your Favorites, Feedly, another RSS feed, or email if you like what you read. Please make a comment to them also - all bloggers appreciate feedback on what they write.

Did I miss a great genealogy blog post? Tell me! I currently am reading posts from over 900 genealogy bloggers using Feedly, but I still miss quite a few it seems.
