Treasure Chest Thursday -- 1689 Marriage Record of Job Card and Jully Samantha Ackers in New Shoreham, Rhode Island

I looked in my digital image files to see what treasures I can find for my family history and genealogy musings for Treasure Chest Thursday.

The treasure today is the 1689 marriage record of Job Card and Jully Samantha Ackers in New Shoreham, Rhode Island:

The marriage record is the first entry in the Card listings:

The transcription of this marriage record is:

"1-343   CARD, Job, and Jully Samantha Ackers, Nov. --, 1689"

The source citation for the death record is:

James N. Arnold, Vital Record of Rhode Island, 1636-1850, First Series, Births, Marriages and Deaths : a Family Register for the People (Providence, R.I.: Narragansett Historical Publishing Co., 1891-1912), Volume 4, "Newport County: Births, Marriages, Deaths," New Shoreham Marriages, page 8, Job Card and Jully Samantha Ackers marriage entry, August 1689; accessed  in "Rhode Island, U.S., Vital Extracts, 1636-1899"  record collection, (; Original data from James Newell Arnold, Rhode Island Vital Extracts, 1636–1850. 21 volumes. (Providence, R.I.: Narragansett Historical Publishing Company, 1891–1912); digitized images from New England Historical and Genealogical Society, Boston, Massachusetts.

This record is a Derivative Source, with Primary Information and Direct Evidence of the marriage of Job Card and Jully Samantha Ackers in New Shoreham, Rhode Island. The original entry is probably in a New Shoreham town record that is not available online.

Job and Jully Samantha (Ackers) Card are my 7th great-grandparents. I am descended through their son, Job Card (1690-1760) who married Judith Greenman (c1694-1786) before 1716 in Westerly, Rhode Island.

NOTE:  Many family trees call Jully Samantha (or Samartha) Ackers as Martha Ackers (or Acres).  I have no idea which given name is correct.  Jully may be a family name or a misspelling (?)
