Genealogy Pot-Pourri - Week Ending 16 April 2023

Here are the highlights of my family history and genealogy related activities over the past week.

1)  Hosted and moderated the Chula Vista Genealogical Society (CVGS) Research Group Meeting on Zoom on Wednesday with 28 in attendance.  We discussed the webinar marathon, three new books, Ancestry's free collections, and the Randy's Genealogy Links page on Genea-Musings.  Member Sam Seat presented his traditional research findings about "Who Is Millicent?"

2)  Watched the Jonny Perl talk at RootsTech 2023 about 3rd-party DNA Tools.

3)  Wrote a genealogical sketch for #752 Christopher Champlin (1656-1732) of Newport and Westerly, Rhode Island for the 52 Ancestors series on Friday.  I've written 475 of these sketches for my ancestors.

4)  Transcribed the one page 1872 Will of Elsie Jane Seaver of Woonsocket, Rhode Island for the Amanuensis Monday series.

5) AncestryDNA now has 42,965 DNA matches (up 92 from 10 April) for me today, with no new ThruLines.   I added 0 Notes to my new matches.  MyHeritageDNA now has 11,290 DNA matches (up 17 from 10 April) for me, with no new Theories.  Reviewed the new DNA matches on AncestryDNA, MyHeritageDNA, FamilyTreeDNA and 23andMe.

6)  Occasionally matched RootsMagic 9 profiles to FamilySearch Family Tree.  I have matched 49,384of my RootsMagic persons with FamilySearch Family Tree profiles (up 13).

7) Used Web Hints and Record Matches from Ancestry, MyHeritage, Findmypast and FamilySearch to add content and source citations to my RootsMagic profiles. I now have 70,950 persons in my RootsMagic file (up 18), and 145,910  source citations (up 25). I TreeShared no new or modified profiles with my Ancestry Member Tree, and I resolved 405 Ancestry Hints. My Ancestry Member Tree has Ancestry Record Hints with 176,971 to be resolved, but I work on them several times a week.  I resolved no MyHeritage Record Matches but I work on them occasionally.

8) Wrote 15 Genea-Musings blog posts last week (Monday through Sunday), of which none were a press release. The most viewed post last week was
Dear Randy: Why Don't I Receive Your Genea-Musings Emails Any More? with over 123 views.  Genea-Musings had about 9,900 views last week.

9)  Grandson Logan requested another interview this weekend, so I sent him an email with answers to 10 questions about my memories and opinions about the Kennedy assassination.

10)  Real life:  This is week 162 (over three years!) since COVID restrictions started.   I stayed home except for visiting Linda every day at the skilled nursing/memory care facility. Went grocery shopping on Monday and Friday.  Tami, James, Lauren, and Charlie visited on Saturday to  see Linda, have lunch with me, and we sorted a lot of stuff to toss, keep or give away from Tami's closet here.  I had to clear a path to the closet and ended up with three bags of genealogy related paper (about 24 inches high), plus several boxes and storage bins to toss.  The backyard weedwacking is about 35% done now.  I started reading Buried Secrets by Anne Hanson.  The Padres season continued, and I watched all of the games this past week.  They are 8-9 so far (2-5 this past week) and in third place.
