Genealogy Pot-Pourri - Week Ending 11 February 2024

Here are the highlights of my family history and genealogy related activities over the past week.

1)  Attended the Chula Vista Genealogical Society (CVGS) Board Meeting on Wednesday and reported on the Newsletter, Research Group and DNA Interest Group.   Wrote, edited, and published via email the February 2024 edition of the CVGS "Family History Gazette" newsletter.

2)  Attended the San Diego Genealogical Society (SDGS) Program Meeting on Saturday with Rhonda McClure and David Lambert of NEHGS presenting talks on immigration and military records.

3)  Wrote a genealogical sketch for my grandaunt in Emily White (Richmond) Taylor (1879-1966) of Connecticut and Massachusetts.

4)  Transcribed the 1891 Will of George Seaver (1813-1893) of Milwaukee County, Wisconsin for the Amanuensis Monday theme.

5)  This week's famous relative post was for 6th Cousin 1X Removed Stephen Richards Covey (1932-2012), the Noted Author, Businessman and Speaker according to Relative Finder.

6)  Worked with some of the lines to distant cousins using the "Relatives at RootsTech" app on the website.  I'm up to 15,853 relatives who have registered (I had over 70,000 last year).  Most of them are 8th to 15th cousins, but my #1 cousin is a 1st cousin 1x removed.

7)  AncestryDNA now has 45,243 DNA matches (up 115 from 4 February) for me today, with three new ThruLines (all three are wrong IMHO).  I added Notes to 3 new Matches.    MyHeritageDNA now has 12,131 DNA matches (up 21 from 4 February) for me, with no new Theories (now have 19).  Reviewed the new DNA matches on AncestryDNA, MyHeritageDNA, FamilyTreeDNA and 23andMe.

8)  Occasionally matched RootsMagic 9 profiles to FamilySearch Family Tree.  I have matched 50,564 of my RootsMagic persons with FamilySearch Family Tree profiles (up 38).

9) Used Web Hints and Record Matches from Ancestry, MyHeritage, Findmypast and FamilySearch to add content and source citations to my RootsMagic profiles. I now have 72,177 persons in my RootsMagic family tree (up 33), and 146,564 source citations (up 18).  Resolved 150 Ancestry Hints. TreeShared no new and updated profiles with my Ancestry tree.  My Ancestry Member Tree has Ancestry Record Hints with 15,191 to be resolved, but I work on them several times a week.

10) Wrote 16 Genea-Musings blog posts last week (Sunday through Saturday), of which two were a press release. The most viewed post last week was
Access to Many AncestryDNA® Features Has Changed for Non-Subscribers with over 238 views.  Genea-Musings had about 34,000 page views last week.

11)  Real life:  This is week 205 since COVID restrictions started.   I visited Linda every day at the skilled nursing/memory care facility. Went grocery shopping on Monday and Friday.  Walked several days on the block and talked to several neighbors.  It rained almost every day.  I am still reading James Patterson's Fifty-Fifty. The SDSU Aztec basketball team went 1-1 and they are 18-6 on the season.  Watched both the Phoenix Open golf tournament and the Super Bowl on Sunday (predicted Chiefs 20-17).  It was a pretty quiet week!
