Here is this week's edition of "Seavers in the News" - a weekly feature from the historical newspapers about persons with the surname Seaver that are interesting, useful, mysterious, fun, macabre, or add information to my family tree database.
This week's entry is from The Orlando [Fla.] Sentinel newspaper dated Tuesday, 21 November 1978, page 17, Column 1:
The transcription of the article is:
"Mrs. Ottie Lee Seaver, 63, 201 S. Orlando Ave., Kissimmee, died Sunday. A native of Walterboro, S.C., she moved to Kissimmee from there in 1926. She was a housewife and retired from the Crawford Fish Co. of Kissimmee. She was a member of the Neptune Road Baptist Church. Survivors, daughter, Mrs. Betty C. Putnam, Mrs. Cathy Mills; sons, Lewis and Henry Ray Seaver, all Kissimmee; sisters, Mrs. Ida Mae Bowen, Davenport, Mrs. Ruby Dell Dunkins, New York; brothers, Harry Koger, Kissimmee, Gene Koger, Prescott, Ark.; Ernest Koger and Irby Koger, both of Charleston, S.C.; eight grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Grissom Funeral Home, Kissimmee."

This obituary provides the decedent's name, death day, age, birth place, children names, siblings names, previous residence, place of work, some associations, but not her parents names, spouse's name, marriage information or associations.
Ottie Lee (Koger) Seaver (1915-1978) was born 9 April 1915 in Verdier, South Carolina, the daughter of Robert Lee and Mary Ida (Davis) Koger. She died 19 November 1978 in Kissimmee, Florida. Ottie Lee married Enoch Edward Seaver (1909-1973) in about 1930 and they had four children:
* Lewis Larue Seaver (1931-2002), married 1966Jane Elizabeth Pelletier (1946-2017).
* Henry Ray Seaver (1934-2001), married 1952 Myrtle Louise Gilles (1934-????).
* Betty Carolyn. Seaver (1942-????), married David L. Putnam (1940-????).
* Kathy Marie Seaver (1957-????), married Russell William Mills (1955-2012).
I am not related to Enoch Edward Seaver or Otte Lee (Koger) Seaver. Enboch Edward Seaver is a descendant of John and Ann (White) Sever of Georgia.
There are over 10,000 Seaver "stories" in my family tree - and this is one of them. Life happens, accidentally and intentionally, and sometimes a person's obituary names a lot of family members. I am glad that I can honor Ottie Lee (Koger) Seaver today.
