This week's famous cousin is my 6th cousin 4x removed Thomas Alva Edison (1847-1931), the famous inventor and businessman.
When Thomas Alva Edison was born on 11 February 1847, in Milan, Erie, Ohio, United States, his father, Samuel Edison, was 42 and his mother, Nancy Matthews Elliott, was 37. He married Mary Stillwell on 25 December 1871, in Newark Township, Essex, New Jersey, United States. They were the parents of at least 2 sons and 1 daughter. He lived in St. Clair, Michigan, United States in 1860 and Fort Myers, Lee, Florida, United States in 1930. He died on 18 October 1931, in West Orange, Essex, New Jersey, United States, at the age of 84, and was buried in Newark Mountains, Essex, New Jersey, United States.

He developed many devices in fields such as electric power generation, mass communication, sound recording, and motion pictures. These inventions, which include the phonograph, the motion picture camera, and early versions of the electric light bulb, have had a widespread impact on the modern industrialized world. He was one of the first inventors to apply the principles of organized science and teamwork to the process of invention, working with many researchers and employees. He established the first industrial research laboratory.
