Seavers in the News -- Obituary of Gertrude R. Seaver (1912-1979) of Hyde Park, Massachusetts

Here is this week's edition of "Seavers in the News" - a weekly feature from the historical newspapers about persons with the surname Seaver that are interesting, useful, mysterious, fun, macabre, or add information to my family tree database.

This week's entry is from The Boston [Mass.] Globe newspaper dated Saturday, 3 February 1979, page 15, Column 6:

The transcription of the article is:

"SEAVER -- Of Hyde Park, February 1, Gertrude R. (Lynch), age 66, beloved wife of George T. Seaver, Jr., mother of Rita of Somerville, Joseph T. of Reading, and Edward K. Seaver, of Hyde Park.  Also survived by 5 grandchildren.  Funeral from the Carroll-Thomas Funeral Home, 22 Oak St., HYDE PARK, Monday morning at 8.  Funeral Mass in Most Precious Blood Church at 9 a.m.  Relatives and friends invited.  visiting hours Sunday, 2-4 and 7-9 p.m."

This obituary provides only an age, a residence, a death date, and list of survivors, plus information about the funeral service.

Gertrude Rita Lynch (1912-1979) was born 31 October 1912 in Boston, Massachusetts, the daughter of Patrick R. and Sahara (--?--) Lynch.  She died 1 February 1979 in Hyde Park, Massachusetts.  She married George Thomas Seaver (1914-2001) in about 1935 in Boston.  He was the son of George Thomas and Mary J. "Minnie" (Donovan) Seaver.  They had three children:

*  Rita Gertrude Seaver (1937-1995).
* Joseph Thomas Seaver (1941-2000), married Ernesta M. Puricelli (1934-2024).
*  Edward Kenneth Seaver (1948-2013), married 1970 Angelina Albina Inzodda (1948-2005).

I don't know the relationship of George Thomas Seaver to me because he is descended from Joseph T. Seaver (1805-????) and Betsey Davis (1810-1868) of Taunton, Massachusetts.  We are probably 9th cousins once removed or similar.

There are over 10,000 Seaver "stories" in my family tree - and this is one of them.   Life happens, accidentally and intentionally, and sometimes a person's obituary has no information about the person's occupation, associations, or accomplishments.  I am glad that I can honor Gertrude Rita (Lynch) Seaver today.

You never know when a descendant or relative will find this blog post and learn something about their ancestors or relatives, or will provide more information about them to me.
