The Austin Carringer House In San Diego In About 1905 -- (Not So) Wordless Wednesday #855

This is one of my favorite and most priceless family photographs:

The photo zoomed in, cropped and colorized:

This photograph was probably taken between 1904 and 1906 of the Carringer family residing at 2105 30th Street in San Diego, California at the time.  The home was on the northeast corner of 30th Street (running north-sout) and Hawthorn Street (running east-west).  This house was built in about 1897, and was moved to the middle of the block in about 1927.  Rooms were added downstaris and upstairs, the internal staircase was closed off, and the building was made into two apartment flats (upstairs and downstairs) and stuccoed over.  I lived up in the upstairs apartment with my family from 1947 to 1968.

The persons in this photograph are, from the left:

*  Harvey Edgar Carringer (1852-1946), the brother of Henry Austin Carringer.
*  Abigail A. "Abbie" (Vaux) Smith (1844-1931), the mother of Matie (Smith) Chenery and Della (Smith) Carringer.
*  Matie Ann (Smith) Chenery (1866-1922), the sister of Della (Smith) Carringer and daughter of Abbie (Vaux) Smith.  Matie is holding the family cat.
*  Abbie Ardelle "Della" (Smith) Carringer (1862-1944), the daughter of Abbie (Vaux) Smith and wife of Henry Austin Carringer.
*  Lyle Lawrence Carringer (1891-1976), the son of Henry Austin and Della (Smith) Carringer, my maternal grandmther.
*  Henry Austin Carringer (1853-1946), the husband of Della (Smith) Carringer, father of Lyle Lawrence Carringer and brother of Harvey Edgar Carringer.

I have had this photograph in my collection for a very long time, but have never displayed it to my knowledge.  It provides a different view (seen looking east from the middle of 30th Street) than the earlier photograph from about 1900.  I estimated the date to be 1905 because Lyle would be 14 years old then, and he is not yet as tall as his mother (he matured very late).  MyHeritage estimated the date to be 1902 to 1904.

These photographs are a part of my family history, and I loved finding it again.  The MyHeritage Photo tools were used to create the color photograph above.
